May issue has 14 of them listed. They are listed under "911 turbo"

They were mostly called 930's back in the 1970's into the early 80's. Then around 1986 they were being called 911 Turbo's by many. Usually you would have to look under 930 and 911 Turbo to find what you are looking for.

In Europe they were always called 911 Turbos, I believe 930 was more of a US thing.

My observation is when it started it was called the 930 project by Porsche. When it went to market in 1975-1977 it was badged the "turbo carrera" indicating the top of the line high performance Porsche model. Then in 1978 was badged as just the "turbo". I like to think of them just as a 930 as the turbo badge is used on others as "944 etc". 911 turbo's are really a further development ( not all of it good in my estimation as they gained more weight and doo da stuff to appeal to the BWM Mercedes or comfort seekers instead of performance goals) of the 930 project so to me they are 930 cars at least until early1980's. That way there is no confusion to some as to what it really is. I think the factory lost its way on Brand management on this one. I do not know where the 911 turbo designation came from as i have never seen one with that badge anywhere on any Porsche.

Mine is a 911 Turbo. It is certainly not a 930 (although it has many 930 parts). Mark

930 was a Porsche special development project based on the 911 car... it was dropped in August 1980, and the car was then shifted into the 911 Turbo - a milder car... 930s are clearly identify by their vin which starts with 930......... not 911, as the 911 turbo does. | ||

all points well taken, but everyone here that has a 930 has that in there vin#. my title says 930. if had not known any different I would have not even thought about looking at a 911 turbo if i were looking for a 930. Really I am just wondering why PCA does not recognize us?

The breakdown that always has follows was 75-77 was the Turbo Carrera, the 930 was in play until they stopped importing them in the 80 then in 86 was introduced as the 911 Turbo. The C2T was also coined 965s but to this day this is still argument if that is valid. Adrian and a few of us debated this for years and to be honest I can't recall the outcome. I know he went as far to contact Porsche about that one.

Where does that leave the euro turbos 80 thru 85? When did they become 911 turbo vs 930? Of course the 964 turbos would never be (properly) referred to as a 930. Funny as I never really thought about it before... but Ive always referred to my 79 as a 930, my 87 as a 911 turbo and my 94 as a turbo 3.6

I only sited the US car since production was stopped to the US in 79. Anything between 78-85 was considered a 930 by label then 911 turbo to 89. We also still refer to the the 964 Turbo simply as a 965, even my 94 3.6T

i am thinking that because the early to mid 80's 930 was a grey market car that PCA had nothing to do with(from what i have read) that they have basically ignored there existence. I also have the 930S on my title.
