Introducing #100. My first "real" 930
I got my first "real" 930. It's a 78 RoW car and # 100 produced. I have the stock parts, but got some go fast goodies with it; SC cams, K27 HF turbo, GHL headers, 46mm tial waste gate, and an aftermarket intercooler(Garrett or Kokeln?) A PO put the "Carrera" badging on. I have all the skirting and euro bumper. I think I will leave the rocker panel covers off though. I like it.

Aweome..welcome and congrats on the new car...more pics when you have the time.

John stopped by the house last night so that he didn't have to tow home in traffic.
I got the first view at #100. RoW. non-sunroof. sport seats. clean, straight body, decent paint. A price that makes a friend jealous. What could be better? Next step is to get the front and rear valence in place, check AFRs with the LM1, make tuning adjustments as necessary and then enjoy the car. Its a fantastic driver. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053399.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053408.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053416.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053425.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053458.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308053466.jpg |
Thanks Jamie! I have a feeling you will be lapping this car at some point yourself or the narrowbody turbo at some point in the future, cooler future.
Anyone recognize the intercooler? I was guessing a Kokeln and Jamie was guessing a Garrett. |
It's a B&B intercooler.
|
Congrats!!!! :)

JFairman,
It sure is isn't it. I just searched it. Well that will work. Thank you! |
Very cool find, keep us posted on the progress!

congrats / welcome / enjoy
really interesting tree growth you gots down there - never been there, looks nice |
Ahh yes, the live oaks. They grow in just about any direction Usually sideways if left unattended. They provide nice shade which is needed on 104F days like today.
Despite the heat of summer Austin is a great place. John, did you solve the fuel pump issue? From our phone calls it looks like fuel line replacement is in order. old rubber is hard and cracking. Do it now before a fire. |
Almost. I have not gotten the return line yet. Is there a lot of pressure on that line? It's not nearly as bad as the pressure lines. I can replace that later with fuel line that is not so expensive. I am going to swap out the fuel filter too. I had received an incorrect fuel filter in the past, that I should have returned, but it will come in handy.
I pilfered the rear 930 pump from the maroon car, which look nearly new especially compared to the original pulled from the 78. I guess that theft would be the first step to moving the maroon car to EFI. I wish someone would buy the 3.2 so I can justify putting the other turbo in the maroon car... I hope to get it (930) wrapped up today so I can get it inspected. I would like to take it to coffee this weekend as a gift to myself. Any suggestions on where to put the o2 sensor? There is no bung. I can get one welded on if need be. Should it be right after the turbo correct? |
Okay, took some time early this morning before it got hot. All the fuel lines are good (at least at the back...), I changed accumulators and I put a new fuel filter on. It does the same thing. It starts and runs well then dies out regardless of throttle in put. Would the WUR have something to do with this? What about the I air valve?

Nice and fun project bought my 87 930 in Austin too 2 months ago going too make a ruf conversion out of it
We'll go riding sometime |
Ylonewolf,
Sounds like a plan. |
I would check the fuel distributor plunger for "gum" built up - classic case...
|
I checked the plunger and it wasn't bad. I cleaned it and I still have the same problem. I need to put some gauges on there and go step by step through the service manual. It's got to be either the WUR or the fuel head.
|
Well that came apart pretty easy.

Got the car running and got one good read with an LM-1 until I got a harness code issue.
The motor idles extremely rich. 10.7 afr or about .67 is lambda. If I turn the mixture screw ccw to lean it will not start. When i "richen" it up it starts and runs, but is hunts at idle and stumbles badly. I have not gotten gauges on it yet. |
Had a chance to get to the car a little late Sunday. I think majority of the problems were "air leak" related. I started it and it idled well. The LM-1 said I was rich but steady. For now, I'll take it. I rolled the car out of the garage and drove it out on it's own power. Once comfortable where the AFR's were sitting I took it out. The neighbor hood has a 1 mile loop. I lapped 5 times and it ran well with old gas an all. I need to get some good gas in it and start logging it to figure what exactly needs to be done as far as tuning it goes. I did get a chance to get it up to speed a little in 2nd and felt the boost come in. Wow! I have not driven a turbo'd car since college. This thing is quick.
