"When one gets one of these off the wall brain fart ideas of doing
something outside of the box one has no idea of how difficult and
maddening it can sometimes be."

It is stuff like this that makes you appreciate how much work goes into the original development of the concept at the factory. they must have had endless days dealing with similar stuff. The CIS system still amazes me and I frequently wonder how many times the Bosch engineers must have thought about jumping out of the window of a tall building trying to perfect that.

Like Cole says - anything that keeps him out of the bars is money well spent, and much better for your health.

Didn't mean to pop any bubbles as there were many reasons for this unique build, not just to shorten the intake path. It's old school cool and that alone is worth the effort.

Bri :

Well the way ya look at it is I was really after the 75HP of old
school cool when I decided to do it in the first place. I figured if
there was any improvement in lag it was a bonus. With my gear
set you don't notice lag anyway. It was just fun to do, keeps me
out of the bars.

Brando:

No disappointment here, it looks killer and was a blast to do.

Cole it looks absolutely fantastic. Major effort but it totally makes sense to me.

I think I have seen on the board, that someone kind of angled to wur to enable easier access when adjusting. I hate the stock way it is one mine.

Looking forward to the next reports.

Hey Cole! The way you set up the intercooler mounting is cool! Just wondering have you figured out the air cleaner box?

Regarding your previous posting to me it's good to know you have a good friend, Bob, whom you can trust. I'm glad that I met him.

Jesper:

Great to hear from you, I hope all is well with you and the family.

One thing about this setup is all I have to do is undo one hose
clamp, unhook 2 quick disconnects, and pull 3 clevis pins and the
IC is on the bench. Makes it really handy to get at things.

I'm still goofing around with the WUR. I have a BL adjustable
and am tailoring clamp arrangement to quick disconnect it for
adjustments. I left extra hose length so I can nearly pull it out
of the engine bay to adjust it.

I swapped out my LM1 for an Innovate MXT-l and an SSI-4
output module so I can log AFR, Boost, RPM, and Control Pressure
at the WUR. I also have a MSD Programmable Ignition and can use
the programmed timing map to correlate with the Innovate data
and use as a tuning tool.

Mike:

Thanks man !!!!! It's nice to be making progress again. Mounting
the IC this way makes it a snap to remove and reinstall.

Should be firing her up in another week or so.

I was at Bob's today and the rockers are done. I'm going to give
them some time to cure well and hope to have them on next weekend.
They really look great and I can't wait to see them on. I will be sanding
the tail and test fitting and modifying it this week it's the last piece that
needs to be done.

I have the parts to put together for the air intake but haven't started
fabricating yet. I'm going to go with a 934 style short stack to start and
then work from there as the car develops.

Mr. Walt:

Good to hear from you bud !!!!!!

Appreciate the kind words and hope your having as much fun as I am. I
just love this old tub.

Nothing wrong with bars, nothing wrong with drinking. I have not
drank for nearly 50 years. I just did all my serious drinking early.

After my great adventure in Thailand being thrown out of Air America
UH-34's into unknown places I went to the Air Force Parachute Development
Center in El Centro, Ca. I spent the next 18 months testing parachutes for
the Air Force.

Mexicali Mexico was less than a half hour away. Needless to say I
celebrated my misspent youth drinking brown, worm laced, oily Tequila
and familiarized myself with ladies of the evening and every gutter and
place to hurl in Mexicali.

When I left El Centro I never drink again.

Thought I'd ramble a little to try and recover my sanity. Seems like everything
I've started I get my dick stepped on.

Decided to get the new 044's installed and test the fuel system and of
course the fuel pumps wouldn't run. Went through the fuel system wiring.
cleaned connectors, rang all the wiring, new relays, new correct fuses, all
safeties good, all grounds cleaned an checked. "ALL RIGHT" pumps run ........
but no fuel coming through WTF. Pull both pumps back out and power each
to test, no fuel moving at all not even a drop. Now, these are new pumps
so, I'm thinking maybe there is a punch out plug installed in one of the two
ends. I start taking the fittings apart and looking for a plug somewhere and
I notice the pumps come with check valves installed on the outlet ends. I take the
check valves off and don't see any plugs so I picked up a check valve and
blow through it, nothing, no air moving, the check valves were installed
backwards. Needless to say two 044 Bosch fuel pumps will blow gas the
length of my drive way if the check valves are installed correctly.

Two New 044's :

Tried to get some loose ends done so we can try starting the Old Girl:

I Installed a pressure transducer to log control pressure back to the SSI-4
I made a mounting bracket and installed the transducer in the CP line
between the WUR to the fuelhead

Finished up the wiring for the lights, installed the bulbs, and I now know how
Thomas Edison felt:

Took last week off for our yearly Road Trip to Mayo for the Cancer check ups
and all is well with the Old Guy and especially for my sweet sweet daughter.

I'm just starting to put together an air intake for the CIS. Trying to get a
lot of clean, cool air. Once that's done I will reinstall the IC and we will fire
this old tub up !!!!!

Can you say 5" intake air stack !!!!

Wiltell:

Thanks man I appreciate it !!!!! My Dr, has a 993 he just bought last fall
and now he is really hooked. I thought it would be cool to take The Sled up
there and show him how the Old School stuff runs.

Jeremy:

Thanks and I'm glad your enjoying the build although it will be nice to
stop building and start driving.

Bait:

Good to hear from you Bud. Hope you healing up well !!!!!

The 044's are brand new and they are the good ones, they really
work well once you get the check valves installed in the right direction.

Big Ups to you my man. This is THE thread. Every time you go quiet, I get worried. Then you bounce back with a heap of nice new stuff on the beast. Must be running out of bits to make or buy, by now?
Driving the 930 to the next check up sounds like excellent advice.

Always great to hear from you my friend !!!! Hope all is well with you
and that sweet woman that has to put up with you.

I was going to post on your thread yet tonight, wanted to tell you how
much I enjoyed the track footage. Way cool and I'm jealous as hell. The
car really sounds good and it sure makes me anxious to hear my new
zork.

I pretty much have all the new bits I need, note I said "I need" not
all I'd like to have. The Sled is coming together well I think it's going
to look pretty good, and of course it's the correct color !!!

I read where you might be coming to the states one of these days.
If you do you've got to let me know, I'd love to have you two come stay
for a couple days. If your wife likes to cook she would be right at home
with my wife, She is the 930 fanatic of cooking.

Would love to see you and I can always use a good tuner. Nothing
nearly nice as the shed here but we can get by.

The very best to you and say hello to the Mrs. for me.
