OIL LEVEL in Case

Hi I wounder if anyone no what the level of oil should be about in the case when engine is off or after one hour.
my engine is a 1976 now a 3.2 short stroke turbo
I do think that i have to much oil in the case like 4-5 liter.
my engine smokes for a 3-4 minutes when start cold. and it is not the turbo
had it rebuilt and still same when start. the engine has only 9000 miles after rebuilt.
my thoughts was that the oil don't scavenge enough and the level is over the cylinders and pass the rings a little when sitting??
I do have the bigger pump from 3.3
