FS-935 Boost Gauge with additional Tell Tale Reset Needle and Key. Replace the Clock.
3 Photos below in next few posts.
I have vintage Boost Gauge with the tell tale needle and the reset key like in the 935 race cars. This gauge is a direct perfect fit replacement to your factory clock. A replacement boost gauge is a necessary addition to your 930 due to the long known and agreed to inaccuracy of the factory boost gauge in your tachometer. PHOTO posted below in my 2nd post. Very easy to install using the small tube to the nearby brake booster vacuum line only 2 feet away in the trunk on the opposite side of the dash board. Installation kit is included. New light bulb and connector plugs into existing clock light plug connector. The vacuum line is the best way to install a boost gauge. The additional tell tale needle indicates the highest boost achieved and the additional needle stays there until you use the key to reset it. This way you will notice an intermittent boost creep failure so you can easily notice if your wastegate diaphragm is starting to leak. I blew an engine this way and did not notice when my wastegate diaphragm was starting to leak. You may not notice a quick one second over boost with a regular boost gauge without the tell tale needle alert. This tell tail needle is worth the money compared to rebuilding a blown engine due to intermittent temporary over-boost. All Offers over $495.00 will be accepted at the end of 5 days. Plus your choice of postage. Email me for detailed photos. Post your replies or click on my screen name to send me a PM or you can send me an email. Thanks for your interest. |
Can you put a picture on here? I would specifically like to see the key also.

Very cool. I have the same one but no key. I wonder if anyone on these forums knows how to make one :)
|
Let's see a close up of the key and maybe.
|
The key is the little straight metal thing in the picture and the inside diameter of it that engages with the triangle shaped stud in the middle of the gauge is triangle shaped to fit it.
When I bought my car it had a VDO/NHS boost gauge with telltale and the adjustment key had been placed on the key ring to the car by the previous owner. I think i had the car for a few weeks before I figured out what it was for! I bet NHS has more of them. |

If that had vac on it i'd rip your arm off.... Do you think, as it's clearly from NHS, that they are the same inside, and all i'd need is the face, and rotate it?
|
The VDO/NHS boost and boost/vacuum gauges are not the same inside.
Here is a pic of the inside of my 2bar boost gauge with telltale needle. You can see at rest or zero bar the rack gear as I call it is all the way at one end of it's travel so there is no way it can go farther and read vacuum. Also a pic of the back side of the telltale needle and it's light friction clutches that look like little bronze wavy washers sandwiched between flat washers to give the needle it's smooth consistant light friction during movement. These were origonally made by VDO for the 934 and 935 race cars. Prototypes like the 936 and 962 had them too. The driver was not supposed to have the little tool for resetting the telltale so the crew chief could look and see what level of boost the driver was turning it up to on the track. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1313363894.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1313363930.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1313363966.jpg |
Hi JBL,
The Andial website says that Andial does not not offer these boost gauges any more and the they recommend NHS, North Hollywood Speedometer as their new supplier. Also, it's nice to know you can still get parts from NHS. They are a very well respected vender for many decades and nice guys who will still talk to you on the phone. Also, you can still use your factory vacuum gauge on in your tachometer. I also used both boost gauges for the vacuum reading and also it is nice to check one boost gauge against the other. The boost gauge is the most important instrument in a turbo engine. Does anyone want to see a photo of a worn out wastegate diaphragm? I cracked a cylinder because of a failed wastegate diaphragm. Once you see it, you will want to watch that you don't have boost creep and blow your engine. |

I just order a Boost gauge for NHS - without the tell tale as they say they can't be made anymore becuase of lack of parts.
If they had the parts it would cost 750.00 So I order mine without and it was 279.00 with shipping... GLWS :) |
The reset key is very simple to make. Just take a rivet tube und crush it on three sides to form a triangle on one end. Drill a hole through the other end for a ring, and viola. Just take your time when crushing the three sides until it fits right....

Thanks for those pics Jimbo...
say, care to share the process for disassembly and re-wavy-washering one's Tell? Mine's floppy floppy, would love to give it a love-stitch if ya know what I mean 8-). Great point about the 2bar being more accurate than the 1.5 due to the low response of the low extreme - totally true, mine's asleep then awakes suddenly. Would still love to have a vac reading tho 8-/... |
Factory 935 Boost Guage

Very Nice !
You better put a key ring through that hole or you may loose it. You'll never find one again like it. |
Good idea. What do you think of this solution? :D

That's freaking awsome! I hope I didn't lose mine... I remember seeing it in the glove box when I bought the car years back - which I cleaned out the next day after bringing it home. I never knew what it was... Hopefully I still have it. :(

Thanks for this thread, I have the same boost gauge in my project car and now I know how to make a key!
