Megasquirt II config files

Some of you know I've had a dual plug EFI setup on my 3.3 for a little over 5 years. I switched from the standard firmware to the MS2/Extra firmware last spring and have been very happy with it. I'm now using Tunerstudio for managing the tune and I really like it.

In any event, since there are a few of us in the boost world with Megasquirt setups, I thought I'd start a thread where you can share your config files or tips. As all of you know, use anything posted in this thread at your own risk. The manuals are your friends.

Here's my most recent .msq file:

Yes, This is a great idea. Your timing curve looks very similar to mine except you have made the lower RPM scale very granular. Since timing doesn't need to change much once it's fully advanced I can see why you did that.

Any chance you can post a screenshot of your ignition map? I tried viewing your .msq file, but I'm lost in tunerstudio.

Here you go. As noted above, I've tried to made the low speed drivability good by making ignition changes more gradual in the normal driving parts of the map.

Here is mine so far, I borrowed much of it from drmatera and am slowly adjusting it.

Fletcher - you will want to kick up the timing in the 600rpm column, it helps to keep the engine rpm from dropping under load...

oh, And I believe your timing numbers in boost are too conservative. Remember too much retarded timing builds heat. Not good on an air cooled head. You should have zero issues running 18-20* total at full boost (10-14psi) on pump fuel. Use your "Air Temp timing adder" to pull timing under "hot conditions".

Thanks drmatera, I'm slowly adding timing as I work my fuel map out. I had the 20* advance in the 600RPM column but had trouble keeping it running right after start up. As far as the AC compressor kicking on, VEMS has an AC clutch input to kick up idle. I've bumped up my on boost timing a bit and will see how she does on the ride home. Currently my EBC is turned off and I'm only boosting up to my 6lb WG spring. I'll be sure to post final information once I'm done.

cool, I wouldn't be afraid of 20* up to say 180kpa then at 220kpa put in 17*. I would consider keeping more bins for under 100kpa and leave only 3 or 4 boxes for over 100kpa. remember 170kpa is 10 psi so if you make 100kpa say 28* and the next bin up could be 150kpa at 24* then 170 kpa could be 20*. Then make your 220kpa row 18* as a ceiling you'll be fine.

Thats cool you have the a/c input, but another reason for higher timing below idle is for when the engine comes down off of higher revs, they'll tend to drop below idle rpm then settle back up. The raised timing is like a buffer

The yellow beast is heading to Norway to a new home. It has been a great project and I appreciate everyone's advice and encouragement. The final tune on the Megasquirt setup is complete and I wanted to share the configuration settings with the community. Remember, each Megasquirt is a little different, but this may be helpful for folks trying to get a good start.

Best wishes and many thanks to you all.

hey mike sorry for your loss but i am sure the next project will b just as rewarding. were you using the the stock temp sensor? if so this will help

drmatera 04-29-2012 11:30 AM

WOW, that's fantastic.. thanks..

smurfbus 04-29-2012 11:42 AM

Another yellow EFI to Norway. Nice thread and good info, thanks

xbmwguy 04-29-2012 02:29 PM

i meant the stock 930 temp sensor

mppickett 04-29-2012 07:12 PM

Yes. I've got two of the stock 930 oil temp sensors (one on each chain cover). One feeds the dash and the other feeds the Megasquirt.
