Well guys, I have my winter project lined up. I wasn't going to do the install myself, but had a unforeseeable cancellation, so hopefully over Christmas I can get this installed. Its a 3.4 CIS with all the goodies. I know I'll be looking for lots of info during the build. thanks in advance Philip

Looks like we're gonna need an Ontario 930 Pelicans get together at your place!

Good idea! We should get a Watkins Glen run together in the summer also. Philip

hey Tom
Yea thats a complete rebuild, with mods, gearbox also. A outfit named MGM did the build. They are close to Pompano Beach, in Fla. I bought the parts here on the board from ZUF. I've been wanting to do the Watkins trip for a couple of years now! I already have a couple of guys interested. It would be a good weekender. Going to need some info on things like wiring the 2 MSD ignition boxes, timing, scavenge pump, etc. when I get to the install. Staying with cis for now, but am upgrading the fueling system. First I have to wrap up some loose ends around the house before winter sets in. cheers Philip

I'm in Boca (just north of Pompano). I'm not familiar with them. |

I may be wrong here, but isn't that large bolt on top of the tran supposed to be the breather?

What is this breather of which you speak? My trans looks just like what is in that picture, and so is one I just installed with a buddy in his car. Both '79 930 cars.

I was told when I bought the gearbox it was from a 87. Which numbers should I get/ and from where, to find out what year it is? thanks Philip

breather
I had a closer look at that large bolt. It's actually a chrome lug bolt. Almost positive Porsche didn't install that. Thanks guys, shows how valuable this forum is. If it weren't for this info, the gearbox may have been installed as is. Richard, we should try to get something together for Watkins next spring. I bet we could get allot of others interested, and Tom would be along the way. Philip

I am across the border in SE Michigan but I have a home in the Northwest as well, would love to get together sometime for an international 930 summit.

The breather, which I posted a link to previously, looks a bit like a "lug bolt" (the exposed portion) . . . it is essentialy a hollow bolt with "exit holes" on the bolt flats which allow gasses to escape (and gear oil, too if you overfill) . . . I guess you can tell this from the PET picture? |

The closed bolt instead of the correct breather bolt was probably just installed for transportation, so absolutely no remaining trans fluid could have come out in case they held the package upside down.
Which would kinda make sense to me. '87 would be a G50/00 transmission number (bottom rib of the case) |
