lookin great Brian

look reminds me immediately of Anthony's stunnnnning navy blue slant @ turboPALOOZA '09 - man that car was captivating!

I'm w/ the 'colored crests' camp (course I see Anthony went ^blk^)- keeps it from looking too murdered out / monochromatic. A little contrast is necessary on certain accent points IMO.

all blk looks good too tho, a bit more ragged

dunno about color-coded (gray) - I'd take that option off the table 8-)

your joke about 1/2 'n 1/2 is a very good idea - I'd rock that for a coupla weeks and see what speaks to ya in real daily life / light

lookin forward to your continued updates, I can near see your e-sharteatin'grin... keep up the good werk down thar

Hey Pauly, glad you could check in! The color of the car is charcoal gray which is so dark everyone thinks it is black. It is only when you see the charcoal gray wheels next to the black tires that the lighter gray is obvious. I may paint the charcoal gray caps to match the hood badge, silver highlight with burgundy and black stripes, I think that would look really good and bring it all together. I still cannot find any info on the silver crests this car came with. They complement the car's color really well.
Next on the list is to lower the car. These tires are shorter than stock leaving a pronounced gap in the wheel well that must go away. She's gonna be low, wide, and sinister looking! The prototype muffler that was on the red rocket will go on as well so she'll have the sound to back up the look.

wide wheels

Brain, I'm looking for some hot rod wheels and wanted to check in with you about your experience fitting them. As you may recall I've got an '87 930 and I'm looking at something like this:

What are the biggest sizes you think would work, 17x8 & 17x11?

Thanks,
RC

That is Jack Olsen's car. I am sure that he has posted what his rim and tire sizes are.

Brian, what size wheels are you using 9x11x17s?

Also, are your tire sizes 315/35/17 & 245/45/17?

Sorry for the side note! I'm trying to get a bead on what you're using so I can try it on mine...

Jacky O's car is a pre-'74 chassis that has been modified to accept 275/315 combo on 17" Fuchs. The sizes and offsets do not translate to 930 chassis.

The charcoal gray painted Fuchs I am using are old school 8&12x15, tires are 225/50-15 and 345/35-15. If I can source a set of 245/50 tires that would be better on the front with 9&15 Fuchs.

I lowered the car last night, took all of 30 minutes, YES!! I'm lovin' those rear coil over shocks! No time to roll the car around and settle the suspension so that will wait for the weekend. The wife came out to the shop just after I finished and had just 5 words to say ... "THAT IS BAD ASS LOOKIN" Ha!

The wife is going to paint the crest part of the charcoal wheel caps silver, I think that will give a nice subtle contrast. We'll see.

Not slammed yet. Better judgment got the best of me so I lowered it 1/2" and will run around town a bit and see if there are any problems. We live in the mountains so there are driveway issues you have to deal with as well as speed bumps at the kid's school.

1/2" ....wuss
Viewing your pictures, I'm thinking 1" to 1-1/2" is needed, it's hard to look sinister when your wearing highwaters.

Mark

P.S. there is no such thing as mountains in Alabama...

Yes I could go 1.5" but that would beg for damage to the front spoiler. For now we'll do 1/2" and if that works go another 1/2". The tires went from 24.4" to 23.8" so we lost 1/2" OD right there.
I don't know the Webster definition of mountains but I'm from IL so even a hill is a big deal! Kidding aside, we do have mountains and some crazy driveways. I got my truck hung on a buddies driveway who lives on Walton's Mountain (no I'm not kidding). I live in the valley of Huntsville Mountain.
Pictures of the car are pretty useless in the garage. I'll get it out this weekend to settle the suspension and tale some pics if the weather cooperates.

Did some quick experiment with the wheel caps, I can't decide what to do with them. They need something but I don't know what. First I painted the crest silver. That didn't look good so I painted over it in black to get a contrast. That turned out interesting. What do you guys think?

By definition AL has mountaines terrain all the way down to the Montgomery area. At least if you are talking aviation. Funny, I know, but it's a fact.
Mountains or not. Lots of fun driving.

Did I mention, just go all black

Hey Brian,

You know I'm just razzing you about mountians.....but since I live with the Cascade mountians in my backyard, I just had to give you a little jab.
Mount Rainer is just 50 miles from my door step and this is in my backyard...

Nice post card!
Best laugh I had in a while was when my brother (who lived in WA at the time) was showing some folks around the mountains and one of them asked "how far above sea level are we?" he answered "look to your left, see that big body of water ...."

Jesper shoot me an email and I'll hook you up with a set or the info.

Brian, on the Bilsteins with helper springs that you have: I don't understand how they enable you to adjust ride height (talking lower it) without reindexing the torsion bars - will you explain?
