Battery

Around a year ago (or longer) I posted a query regarding a light weight battery - along with the predictable comments on how I should lose weight in other areas, that if I still have my A/C system and such it was dumb to try losing weight at all etc., several people posted here and in the 911 forum on how they were using this:

Amazon.com: Hawker (Enersys) Odyssey (PC680T) 12 Volt/16 Amp Hour Dry Cell SLA Battery - SAE Automotive Posts.: Electronics

I got one for Christmas and today compared the weight of the one in my car to the Odyssey . . . Odyssey weighs 14 pounds and the one I removed weighs 45 pounds - WOW!

I also got another trickle charger and fed the "dedicated" cord/plug for it through an existing hole in the left wheel well so that I can plug in the charger with ease.

Made my own hold-down mount for the new battery as well.

It sure looks tiny in the huge battery box area - I guess I will know if it has enough storage etc. if it leaves me stranded somewhere! I probably would not try it if I lived in a cold climate . . .

Won't know how well it cranks for a while as I am just preparing for a valve lash inspection.

thanks for the input, I am looking for a light weight battery for my build! How well does it crank the car over though?

Won't be able to test it for a bit as I am taking the car down for valve inspection . . .

I am interested to see the end result. I am looking for something small and light for the 930. Maybe even small enough to tuck near my oil tank.

Not surprising as the one you removed probably had three times the capacity and CCA.

Lighter battery, smaller battery, less CCA, less Ah, less RC...nothing magical about that...as long as it does what you need it to do.

I do like Odyssey's advertizing though...."service life (for conventional batteries) 1 to 5 years". I'm now in my 13th year on my "conventional" battery. I got to chuckle though.

FYI: I just measured the Odyessy and it is 7" wide by 7.5" tall (to the top of the posts) and 3" thick.
