Turn signal stalk removal
Replacing the turn signal stalk, anybody know how the old one comes out? Don't wanna start breaking things.

From what I remember when I did it, it was pretty easy.
Remove the clam shell cover (two small screws) Unplug the wire harness to the stalk Remove screws that hold the stalk in place.

You will need to remove the steering wheel to gain access to the 4 other screws holding the clam shell on.

If you are replacing the turn signal/high beam unit with a new one, I advise unplugging the wires under the dash one at a time, and plugging in the corresponding new wire one at a time. The plugs are not all that easy to see.
Be sure to mark your steering wheels position before pulling it off so that you put it back on straight. |

+1 on marking the wheel position. i had to redo it like 3 times to get it straight. and yeah just pull the wheel like they said above and its really obvious how to dis assemble.

back up light switch is quite the pain in the but. its on the passenger side of the tranny. if you can get the car on a lift it would be much easier. on mine i could not access the switch as easy as it appears as the tranny would not allow for a open end wrench to grab it. also be sure and check/replace the small metal rod that is behind the switch as on mine it was not the correct one. i had made up one like discussed in the forums but finally went ahead and ordered the right one through porsche. it was not that much and it was the perfect length. depending on the tranny you have there are a few different length pins. make sure you get the correct one. at least that what i am told as the dealer had to re-order the part several times as they kept coming in the wrong length.

For the switch itself? I believe it's 22MM if I remember. I had to make a pin myself before and replace it.

22mm socket
Like previously mentioned, a wrench won't go on the switch, due to interference! Need a socket. Philip

i think it must be a special notched socket as i could not get it around the switch? i am sure there is a trick to it! and 22mm sounds right

The wires plug into the back of the switch. Pull the wires then slide the socket on.

mine must be different as the socket won't slip completely over the switch it stops just prior due to interference with the tranny.
