Euro bumper removal

I've searched this but couldn't find anything specific to the euro bumper. Do I need to remove the bumperettes first? I can't see how to remove the rubber strip on the bumper, I see no way to access any screws from the outside. My current plan is to remove the 4 small nuts behind the bellows and try and find a similar attachment for the strip. I was hoping to avoid removing the valence and heat shield separately. Any tips would be appreciated TIA.

Take off the nuts for the bellows. Remove the 3 or 4 bolts holding on the big black bumperettes and take them off. Very carefully pry out the small rectangular Reflectors from the rubber strips, behind the reflectors are small screws which must be removed to get the rubber strips off, then you will be able to see the nuts which hold on the aluminum or magnesium bumpers. you do not need to remove any bolts nuts screws or brackets from the bumper shocks... If your car has the heatshield between the turbo and muffler and the bumper, it will need to be removed to get to the screws or bolts holding on the bumperettes... Be careful not to scratch the paint, it will look like this once you get it off.. sorry but the rags are covering the studs in the bumper shocks..

Hi Ben,
I noticed in the photo that your muffler has some spot welds along the middle of the muffler body that makes it look like someone opened it up and rewelded a new lwer section on it. My OEM muffler appears the same way with these welds and I was wondering if this was stock from the factory or if someone had opened it up to gut the insides of it at some point in time.
Do you know if this was someone modifying your muffler or is this just factory?

Sorry if I hijacked this thread guys.

Fred

Got the PM..... thanks man.
I think that mine was possibly repatched at some time anyway cause there is a new stainless section along the bottom of the muffler below those spot welds.
I wonder how much back pressure that 79 muffler adds to the turbo exhaust...is it worth scrapping it for an aftermarket unit....or do I save my money.
I know it weights about 25lbs or so and I like having that weight off the back of my car now with the zork I am running, but the wife hates the noise.

They have studs attached to the back of them that pass through the bumper and are fastened in place with nuts . . . and of course, the wiring for the plate lights passes through them.

Would one still have to remove the rubber strip to get a '87 US bumper off?
