Ruf car on auto trader classics

Interesting 1986 RUF twin-turbo. 6 speed trans. Some good pics of the underside. It uses SSI headers. A pretty tidy looking set up.

That is a cool car.

What is all the stuff in the back seat? Fire suppression system and what else?

Well it was built for Steve Beddor's father and their family was heavily involved with Rally, Ice and Hillclimb racing so I would think that the red box is more than likely some sort of Rally computer system for Pikes peak and such.

The family was great personal friends with the Ruf family so this one is something very special.

Looks like an old obsolete controller or computer of some type that should be in a museum and could be replaced by something easier to maintain and smaller than a bar of soap nowadays.

I wonder if there is an iPhone app for it.:)

I was thinking same as Mr. Fairman. It looks like some ancient engine management computer. Probably plugs into and old VAX machine for programming:)

Really like the car though.

Some other folks mentioned the yellow connectors are for thermocouples. It seems it could be some sort of telemetry or data logging system.

Hmmmm, that's not a typical RUF intercooler and those are just SSI heat exchangers modified for side mounted turbochargers. AFAIK, it doesn't look like a genuine RUF CTR conversion...

It isn't a CTR but is it most certainly a RUF. This is another Beddor car, those guys were tied very closely to RUF and I'm sure could commission anything they wanted. The AWD 964 based CTR that popped up a few months ago was also theirs.

I was told by the seller that it is the engine management system. I was there a few months ago but missed the opportunity to see the car(the car was being serviced).
Good group of guys with a great variation of cars.
