Twin fender coolers vs center mount
I'm kicking around the idea of reinstalling my original 82 front spoiler (no cutout for center cooler). Right now I am running a Mocal center cooler (Ruf style valance) along with one fender mount cooler. My car has been modded and has 450 plus flywheel HP. It stays relatively cool except if it sits in traffic for long periods. I would like to possibly retain the stock look if I can keep it cool enough. I see some high horsepower 930's coming out of a premier shop in Arizona that are running stock valances. Are they using twin fender mounted coolers with fans? Do they have ducting going to the fans? How well do they work? Thanks, Tom

tom similar setup with center setrab abd fender stock cooler. if you decide to change to fenders or dont at least wire the fan or fans to a switch for severe traffic

I use two fender coolers and rarely use the fan. I'm in Vegas and it never got over 215 this year. I drive daily. I have not tracked it and I'm only using .8 bar so maybe I don't count. I drive it hard though.

Thanks. I do have my one fender mount cooler switched and watch the temps. I also wonder about the effectiveness of the center mount due to the lack of clearance behind the cooler. I know some guys cut and form the inside of the trunk. I'm not sure I want to do that. Tom

I run a fender with fan on a manual switch and a front mount cooler (930s) and it keeps the 930 cool at 190 when moving 210 in traffic. I may move to a fender cooler in the DS to go back to a stock look.

I am running two 'Carrera' style oil cooler with fans, one in each fender with the factory thermostatically controlled switches, factory relays and after market fans. I ran the cross over line behind the front bumper and the left cooler is up side down for ease of running lines. I do have a switch on dash( old rear wiper switch) to turn fans on if I am at the track.
They seem to do the trick while saving the look of the car. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ficke; 10-08-2013 at 12:12 PM.. |

I am planning on running the factory cooler in the RF fender and also running the center mount. I have them both, so I figured "why not"

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I will give it a shot and change out to the factory stock look. Like I said; I have a cooler and fan on the right side (Elephant Racing). I did have the factory finned shroud on it but that it hit the tire when turning sharp and had to be removed (fins got ripped off). Tom

Subscribed. My 86 has stock internals with just 7006 turbo and headers and even at that power level can't stay out for a full 20 minute run group at the track in the summer. Needle goes to around 10 o'clock and I pull in.
The 86 has a cooler but no fan in the front RH fender. Are the fans a worthwhile upgrade? Car doesn't get hot enough on the street to worry about even in summer with AC, but it does on the track. |

I wonder if running brake ducting to the fender cooler(s) would work?
