starter

That seems like a screaming deal. I bought a similar starter for my Ferrari 328 and paid about 400 bucks for it... It spins the car over a lot faster and weighs less. I like it .. For 120 bucks that is dirt cheap.. If my wifes carrera starter acts up I think I will try one.

I bought the ebay starter last year. works great and easy to install because of its size.

I would think the cost combined with the weight savings would make it worth it. As far as powerful, I don't think that's as much of a concern for a low compression motor versus a motor that has 11:1.

Does anyone know if this starter is the same as for a 965?

I've had fun-and-games with my local auto-parts store, as the p/n they have listed for a 1992 MY 965 actually ships the wrong Bosch item....there are electrical contact differences on the solenoid.

The old knackered looking starter I have has a Bosch p/n of 0331 303 158 658<---this has 3 terminals

Whilst the one I got shipped was Bosch p/n 0331 303 133 -63 <---this only had 2 electrical terminals

Would definitely be interested in getting one of these lightweight units, so long as it has both the right electrical connections and fits a G50/52 transmission.

Cheers
Spencer.

High torque starters ans newer Bosch ones have only 2 terminals, but there is no need for the 3rd anyway. It does lead currency when starting from Pin #15a to cold start valve, switch by solenoid. Newer simply do this direct by incomming currency at pin #30. So just fit both cables on same pin.

Spencer,
The Hi-Torque / mini starters will not work on a standard bell housing G50/52 due to the need to have a long shaft extension and the pinion support. If your G50/52 has been shortened you should read this thread:

Hi Torque Starter - HELP

It can be done but it is a PITA.

Richard.

I don't have any experience with the one shown in the link however I do have quite a bit of experience with the Hi-Torque starter sold by our host. I data logged the RPM of a new Hi-Torque starter and a new Bosch OEM starter and the RPM's were about the same (~380 rpm). This was on a newly assembled (tight) 930 engine with 98mm cylinders (3.4L). The little Hi-Torque starter sounded strong and given the weight savings, it was a no-brainer. I don't have any experience regarding how long it will last however overall it looks very well built.

I hope this helps,
Richard.

Ahhh thanks Roland - I was *fairly* sure that given a little bit of head scratching, the newer starter could be fitted, but to be on the safe side, I sent it back and gave the parts store the "challenge" of finding the right item

Cheers Richard....it was the throw-out I had at the back of my mind - casting memory back to Jonathan's (JBL930) threads on his 993tt transplant with a mix-n-match on gearboxes/bellhousings.

Sorry for hijacking folks!!

Spence.

This is a local company who does lots of HIGH hp and world class level racing starters. I contacted them to see if they do anything for a 964 turbo

GPE Competition Starters

I have ran them on my mustangs with great luck.
