Smile Turbo question and best oil for 930

Can anyone tell me, as I am new to turbo motors. I have a 1987 930 turbo, do I have to change the oil in the turbo or is fed via the engine or a sealed unit?

Also what is the best oil to use when I change the oil in the motor. I have been told not to use a synthetic motor oil as the motors dont like it but it is really difficult to by straight oil like we used to use years ago.

What SAE should the oil be as well, once again I have been told 10w to 30w and then 20w to 40w all a bit confusing. The vehicle is not driven in snow or really cold conditions.

Also when I first start car there is a bit of whiteish smoke from the exhauste especially if the car has been sitting for a couple of weeks, it then dissapears after about 30 seconds is this anything to worry about.
?

Any info would be greatly recieved.

Fed via the engine sucked out by the scavenge pump and dumped back into the tank. Smoke on start up is common. Most guys run 20/50 brad Penn or valvoline vr1 or? There are may opinions on which oil to use.

Also it is mandatory for new members to post pics of your car if you have not already, ;-)

Welcome to the madness (group). There are a lot of great guys on here.
Regards.

Well it depends on your climate, if you look at the factory manual ( that is if you have that still or if it is still with the car. ) You can find some basic info the factory manuals are always good
to start with. However once you start getting into modifed vehicles, or abnormal climate or blue printed motors or high milaged motors you should begin to select a oil that is best suited for your needs. Avoid mixi matching.

Because in the South of California we get days reaching 120 degrees F. I'll run a higher viscosity. One thing you don't want to do if posible is run to high a viscosity, this can place
stress on your rings etc. During the winter I tend to go with something a little lighter and I have a specific tempreture range I prefer to operate air cooled engines within.

15w50 Mobile ( as mentioned already by shadetree930 )
0w50 ENOES or their 5w40.
10w60 Castrol / RS / TWS or Castrol Classic Oils.
Motul makes a lot of great products too, they too have a 15w50.

Using Vr1. I would use synthetic, but I don't know when the last build was done if any. VR1 is readlily available at Auto Zone and cheap when they have their sale.

If you have a cat then I wouldn't use it because of the ZDDP.

Pound sand where the sun don't shine Mr. Spammo-ramma quinettaw02

If not synthetic, then go with the highest ZDDP you can find (unless, of course, you're still running with a catayltic converter).
