Fuel Accumulator leak ?

I went a few weeks without starting my 86 930. The battery ran down and not even the clock was working.

I hooked up the jumper cables today. I turned the ignition on for about ten seconds without starting the car as I was checking something. Fuel pumps went to work but I started to smell gasoline, which i have never done before in this car. I turned the key off.

I noticed that one of the lines connecting to the top of the fuel accumulator had a trace of fuel on it, and that one drop came off the bottom of the unit as I inspected it (key now off). There was very little fuel present but enough to see and smell. Nothing on the floor or exhaust.

I started the car and it ran really rough, like maybe two cylinders, for about 15 seconds and I had to tap the gas pedal some to keep it running. Tach was all over the place but I am assuming that was due to low voltage. After about 30 seconds the car settled down to its nice normal idle, no more fuel leak, and tach was normal.

I am going to check the lines on the accumulator for a tight fit, and then most likely replace the unit. Any thoughts on why it would leak temporarily after the car did not run for a few weeks? Never had any problem with it previously. Fuel filter is only a few months old.

Thank you for any thoughts.
