Bill Gates Old 930

Kind of an interesting read:

Turbo Porsche Purchased New By Bill Gates To Cross The Auction Block

Looks like I need to be a rich geek to get resale value like that. Interesting that it doesn't have the rock guard on the flares.

Well, someone added an intercooler and a late model tail to it, so the 79 is not concours but a hot rod. I thought that decreased the value.

Looks completely stock to me... (regarding intercooler and Tail)

It stated that this is a 1979 930. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that the 77, 78 and 79 930's did not have an intercooler, and had a different tail (no need for the big box to make room for the intercooler.

Me too for a 79 ( intercoolers started with the 1978). Also the price, if as good as it looks with the current interest in early 930's from the western European buyers, it should easily make the estimate. Also regarding values for a collector, and/or concours seeker, stock is really important, however if you like a better drive, proper upgrades are desirable to some. Just keep the stock parts for a wider market in case you need to sell someday.

76-77 930 (3.0) no cooler, small tail, actually the real "Whale Tail"

78 on 930 (3.3)...Intercooler and larger "Tea Tray" tail

He does love his Porsches.

"When Microsoft was based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in its early years, he bought a Porsche 911 and used to race it in the desert; Paul Allen had to bail him out of jail after one midnight escapade. He got three speeding tickets--two from the same cop who was trailing him--just on the drive from Albuquerque the weekend he moved Microsoft to Seattle. Later he bought a Porsche 930 Turbo he called the "rocket," then a Mercedes, a Jaguar XJ6, a $60,000 Carrera Cabriolet 964, a $380,000 Porsche 959 that ended up impounded in a customs shed because it couldn't meet import emission standards, and a Ferrari 348 that became known as the "dune buggy" after he spun it into the sand."

i guess i'm in good company as mine is the same color wonder how many miles are on his. his looks interstesting: euro rear bumper, eruo tail lights?, no fender spats, and late sty headlight washers.
