Front Wheel bearing Cap Issues

I guess it wasn't my day. I wanted the check my front wheel bearing thrust washer today and I went to try to remove the cap and ended up pulling the small ring nut right off. I'm amazed how the factory welded that on.

I got two pull on the slide hammer and it broke right off. I guess the only way to remove it is to have the ring welded back on?

I'd just weld it back on.. the older ones had a lip on them , but this is a better design (supposedly)

I know the lip one is not... When I read some post, I could not figure out how a sliding hammer would do the job (my almost 30 year old has the lip one) but thanks to this posting I now understand.

I'm going to call a friend tomorrow that just opened his new shop to see if he has a welder there yet. I just hope after its welded back on I'll be able to get the cap off.

After you weld it, make a little bridge out of flat stock, By screwing a bolting a nut on into the repaired cap, and you can will the cap right out. Search for pics here.
