84 930 shifter position

on my 84 930 when the stick is in "neutral" where you can move it left to right freely. when i move all the way to the left it pretty much lines up with the E brake. is that about how your guys are.

when i am in 4th it is awful close to the passenger seat. any pics or input are appreciated.

a standard 4 speed 930 tranny on a 84

If the shift coupler is adjusted good you can remove the shift knob and leather boot, cover the seats with damp towels, heat up the shift rod red hot with torch of choice where it makes it's approx 45*bend and bend it some more to where you like the shift knob location.

Let it cool, put the leather boot back on and try it out.. you can always do it again.
A short shift kit and snug bushings throughout is nice too.

my question is more related to where the center of the shifter should be when in neutral. using the e brake as the centerline should it travel left to right(in neutral)the same amount?

Hi j930

On my 87, when in 4th the shifter is sitting between the two seats, 2nd is closer to the drivers seat. hope that helps.

I think mine is similar, have no issue with it.
I would be careful heating the shifter too many times, may fatigue.

helio glad to see you kept your car. car is running great. just had her in a few weeks ago for a valve adjustment after the rebuild. the manager test drove it and said there was something a little off. tracked it down to the fuel head. Brian found a bad o ring in there and man it feels like a new new car again. unbelievable pull. all is well. i have been messing around with the position of the shifter and pulled it all apart tonight and centered it up on the e brake or as close as possible. the shifter had pulled out of the plastic cup during the adjustment so that made for a longer adjustment. but now i have about equal travel each way. it shifts great so i will leave well enough alone. thanks for all the input guys!
