Wait, I'm sure you already now this but yeah, I'm sure your making lots more than me. But I'd still say second is a fun gear for you provided your running under 350lb ft.

lol.....2nd is a good gear and I go about 75% but your right in that its the torque that matters not HP. I'm still undecided on if I should go 930 4 speed re-geared or G50 which is a lot more $$$. BTW, Your cars cool! A 76 standard width body hiding a 930 heart. That things a sleeper for sure!

I also put all the factory glass back in, soundproofing, headliner, door panels and RS carpet. I even threw in a nice stereo and power windows. Overall the car is much nicer to drive. By cutting out the front section of the roll cage and installing reclining recars ingress is much improved. Total weight added was around 150 lbs so it's currently around 2300 lbs. The turbo more than makes up for the little bit of added weight.

That is a really good looking car. Nice selection on everything.

SRT8 challenged today!

Stop Light #1 - pulled up next to the 8 in a double left turn lane. SRT8 blips the throttle and I immediately noticed it was far from stock. (sounded mean) - Light turns green and I gingerly take off, rounding the curve much easier in my 2700lb car, getting out ahead of him quickly. Hitting the straights I see (and HEAR) him juice it in the rear view, but we immediately caught the next light...

StopLight #2 - He pulls up beside and rolls window down...

SRT8: "Hey, nice car! Let's do this!!!!, he smiles..."
ME: I smile back, "It's not much of a drag car..."
SRT8: "That's ok... so, what year is that?"
ME: "It's an '84..."
SRT8:"Cool, is it a TURBO?!?"
ME: Smile, "Well... Maybe...?" - Light turns green at that moment, we both punched it! First gear goes by in a split second... now into second with wastegate openend and in full tilt. No mistaking N/A for turbo now! I look back and see the SRT8 about 2.5 car lenghts behind... WOOO WHOOO!!!

Braking hard, I let him fly by... we both gave thumbs up and each had a good laugh. Surprised me how quick I got away!

Cool story! 300+hp is a lot with these lightweight 5 speeds. I've mellowed out some after grenading my 915 a couple months ago. Still, it was in fine shape other than second gear exploding.
Be careful if you have over 325lbft of torque. I'm pretty sure I have over 330 lb ft but haven't dynoed. Based on this car TurboKraft love and dyno results which is nearly identical to mine in bolt ons maybe closer to 350.
Next stp is g50 or 930 tran$.

Nice job Cliyde representing the P-Car community! I always like taking on the new muscle cars with my 37 year old air cooled 6.

Telerding, thanks for the compliment! The wheels are Lindsays and if I remember correctly their 17x11 rear and 17x 9 fronts. Tires are 255/40 and 315/35.

Quattro, I'm in the same boat with the 915 so I feel your pain. I go easy in 2nd (up to 5000 rpm half throttle) but 3rd gear its on! and I know that a G50 is in my future as well.

Consequently today I welded on a tailpipe to my dump pipe and routed it where my old muffler exited. Now it comes out to the side and its really great sounding once I reach full boost. I really love my magnaflow! So sweet sounding and once the wastegate opens its like another character. Love love it.

you guys are lucky with your modded out turbos. I don't think my stock 930 could give much trouble to a modern faster car. I think even my little 4cyl toyota powered car is a bit faster. One of these days I will summon up the courage to pull the trigger on some mods!

What are you waiting for?

There's plenty of documented, proven combos that make pretty big power for little money.

love that story - man, ^that^ is how it is "supposed" to WORK!

too funny

Ideally, that's what happens. Realistically, it's varying combinations / degrees of all the experiences shared thus far.

I'll say tho, these things ellicit more friggin stop light convos from allllll walks allllll sorts of folks... and no matter what they drive. Most simply dig it / wanna see hear it. I know I would. Do get the occassional @$$hat who just cuts in front of me b/c "he won"... I don't even fight those anymore, just fade back and ease off and ignore. Not worth it.

Don't mind a hike of the skirt tho for those deserving 8-).

I do get a good number of bikes trying to play, and have dispatched with a fair percentage.

Juvenille yes. But who's arguing?

Agreed except the little money part. I've done it more frugally than many guys and its still not easily affordable by my standards. When you look at mods to other turbo cars, like a Toyota for example, it's another couple levels higher in cost. But in my opinion it's all worth it. Just last night I stomped my authority on a brand new Audi s6 with turbo v8.
He wanted to race so badly I could tell. That's a fast Audi, fastest I've ever seen in fact. Still I crept past it at 120mph. I researched it and found that it indeed is very fast. Off the line c&d clocked 0-60 at 3.7! Launch control is so cool.
