I have a 964 T converted to 134 when I got it
the A/C was weak (Austin, Texas 100+ degrees in summer) I switched to envirosafe industrial . and wired the condenser fan to high all the time car blows 40 degrees car is black so if it sits in sun it takes a little to cool off but it is tolerable I have an extra 964/993 ac condenser fan assembly I was going to use before some one suggest I use envirosafe and yes it is flammable but so is gasoline If you are R12 I don't know if this will be an improvement but it is available |

Hang a 10" puller fan thats about 3" thick off the bottom of the tail condensor and wire it to come on with the compressor clutch.
Easy way to hang it is remove the 3 bolts holding in the condensor and push 4 of those nylon push together zip tie like things (black ones will look best under the tail grill) that fit through the condensor fins from the top side and hold the fan in place against the bottom of the condensor. That will do more than anything else to cool off the AC. It's easy and fans are usually around $50. |

stupid question, but I have to ask. When installing that rear fan on the condenser, should the air flow blow down towards the engine or up towards the condenser.....?

You have positive pressure on top of the tail when the car is moving so you'd use a fan sucking air through it and blowing that air down towards the motor.
Thats a "puller" fan because it's mounted on the bottom side of the AC condensor heat exchanger and pulling air down through it. Some straight flat blade fans can be used to push or pull air by reversing polarity on the motor but the most efficiant ones have fan blades that are designed to work best in one direction - pull or push. |

Thank you! I will start looking for one now. My system is r134 retro air and it cools but not that great when its really hot and sunny outside so this serms like an inexpensive improvement. I dont think retroair offers a fan for the rear condenser they sell in the 930 ac upgrade kit but I may be wrong. I got the new front blower fan and sanden compressor with the upgrade kit however only the left middle vent and drivers tiny side vent blow air. The floor blows lots but the right center vent and passeger side vent hardly have any airflow..

I got tired of trying different stuff and got a kit from retroair. they are in my old hometown, and I have no issues. Florida summer I get a vent temp of high 30's, and a cabin temp in the low 70's. But I got the all-frills kit, and I have the bigger dash vents since I have an 87, so that helps a lot.

Can you elaborate on what you did to get over to R134? I have Griffith's page bookmarked but haven't pulled the trigger.

the guy who did it for me just added the evaporator updated for 134, sits in the fenderwell ran about 200$.
he may have added new seals too, not sure. blows cold, not ice cold, but cold. The central vent was key! Last edited by Tt surgeon; 06-28-2012 at 12:37 PM.. |

My ac is now super cold! Full r134 930 upgrade system with new compressor and center "kuehl" style vent.. Turns out the housing came off the center vents from inside the dash and hardly any air was coming in so felt like it hardly cooled. With that in its place and center foot vent with a "kuehl" style vent to blow up it cools great.
Retroair system. Moving to AZ from florida so ver happy its fixed. I got a 10" puller spal fan to mount on the retroair rear wing condenser so it should get even better --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?roeisa

Agree about the center Kuehl vent that replaces the useless Bowtie on the floor.

10" puller fan
Can anyone suggest a link to a fan which they have used with success? I take it that it would just be wired up to the green wire that connects to the compressor? thanks Philip
