front wheel bearing grease seal

79 930
The front wheel bearing grease seal can go onto the spindle 2 different ways. Neither the shop manual nor any of the after market books show the right installation. Talked to a couple of independent Porsche guys, a front end shop, even a Porsche dealer. Nobody knows.
With all that said: What is the right way the seal is supposed to face when it is placed on the spindle.

Just do a trial fit with the seal by itself, slipping it over the spindle seal collar. The side that slips over the collar with least resistance is the way it gets installed. You'll see what I mean when you try it. One side has a chamfer look to it and fits looser than the other side. The loose fit goes on the spindle first.
