Catalytic Converters
Have studied the various exhaust diagrams, but have one question:
Did the 1986-era Turbos ever utilize a combined muffler-cat, or was the cat always a separate unit?

Both 930 and 965 have a separate catalytic converter. The 930 cat is on top of the muffler connected by a 180 bend and the 965 cat is stand-alone with the muffler located in the right rear wheel/engine well.

Thank you, gentlemen. The seller of the car I am buying found that he forgot that
He had the cat for the car in a box that came with the car. The only mystery is the muffler carries the P/N 930 111 038 04. It should be 05. Maybe he misread it.

I bought this car today after seeing it and driving it. Very original car. A few warts on it, some to be fixed by seller, some to be assumed by me.
More to come.

Car is very original, all smog items are present and functional. Original paint, interior, wheels, etc. Two owner car; first owner had it for 23 years and 38,000 miles. Second owner had it for 3 years and less than 4000 miles.
A couple of items were specially ordered by the first owner, including cloth seating surfaces and gold wheel centers. The warts: Front wheel balance and front alignment - to be fixed by seller Catalytic converter - to be reinstalled by seller Whine from engine and gauges jumping - alternator to be replaced by seller Dash sun damaged - to be addressed by buyer Tires beyond service life - to be replaced by buyer. All in all, a very nice car, and I am happy to be the new caretaker! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yep, she's a beaut alright! Love the color, don't see that too often. As to the warts....well, you're bound to find a few more but not to worry. Warts are like mushrooms...they grow slowly over time and all you have to do is pluck them when they show up. 1986 was a long time ago, so screw the warts and enjoy the car for what it is.
