divided flange housing
I want to get the model with the split flange housing, and will put dual waste gates on my headers this winter. The only option for the exhaust connection is with the V-band connection. What options are there for joining to the flanged muffler. Is there a length of pipe that has the compatible end for the V-band available? That way I can modify my muffler, and keep it in the same position. can anyone show me what they have done? Philip

Philip, You can by a V-Band flange at just about any race shop..... then, just weld it to the existing muffler, instead of the current bolt flange. Once you use V-band, you will NEVER go back to anything else...

FYI, if you do buy their turbo with the V-band... it comes with both parts of the flange, and a new clamp.....

good info..
I see even your T-4 flange is replaced with a V-band. Nice work, truely a project to be proud of. Philip

couple more questions
Can someone with the 1.06 turbo comment on performance? Is there much difference in spool-up time compared to the .86? I need only to support 600 rwhp, no more. Also I am told a 4 bolt Garrett flange does not bolt up to a Porsche muffler, that you have to weld a K27 flange to the Garrett. Who's has experience with this. Still on the fence with going split flange. Would like to use for the season without too much down time for modifying exhaust. Philip

I wouldn't even consider NOT running a twin-scroll. The benefits are too good. With twin-scroll, I'd run the 1.06, but I like max hp if it means a slight sacrifice to the spool up time.
Now I think about it, if you have two large WG's, you could run a twin-scroll with .8X A/R and have your cake and eat it too regarding peak hp/quick spooling possibly. Last edited by Tippy; 07-08-2012 at 07:05 AM.. |

I purchased my GT35R from Turbo Kraft. Yes the flange did need to be changed as I recall but is an easy mod for anyone who can weld. Call them they will give you the info..

Hi, we'd be happy to sell you a twin scroll GT35R, and all the pieces to install it. However, you're starting 600rwhp as your goal. Maybe a GTX35R will get you there at 1.2-1.3 boost pressures, but a standard GT3582R will not get you to 600rwhp. They max out around 600hp at the flywheel on the 930 engines. The GT35R turbine wheel (also used on the GTX) will become a limiting factor at some point.
The turbine discharge to the muffler is a 3" v-band. The stepped Garrett v-band flange is not required with most turbine housings. Give me a call for recommendations to hit 600rwhp, or look at SCHNELE's 930 Resurrection thread.

Another +1 for this fella ^^^...strange bloke, utterly helpful, can't get him off the phone! Lol!
...got my GT35R from Chris; it's sitting patiently in the garage....almost at the point of some major fab work to modify for twin scrolling.

Chris can definatly unknowingly talk over your head about turbos. He by all means knows his stuff and I also ordered my gt35 from him.
