Question Ceramic Coating

Anybody have their stainless exhaust [after the turbo] ceramic coated? If so, what degree threshold does it need to be: 1,700, 2,000?

Any pictures of the finished product? Anybody recommend a vendor??

Hey Mooney:

If you're Ceramic Coating anything turbo related (turbine side / hot side) you want a Ceramic that is rated a minimum 1700 +. This exclude ALL bright Ceramic as it will NOT hold up. All of our Turbo Coatings are rated at 2000F+. I don't believe I have pics of your exact application but I do have some reloated pics and a full gallery of similar items you can look at.

Let me know if you have any waditional questions.

Thanks for the response. I've got this muffler:

And, am looking to get it ceramic coated in the satin black ?2,000F? that you have shown. Could you explain your process [shipping, turn-around time, etc.]. Also, how do you prep before you apply the finish? Sandblast?

And, what about the inside of the tips - - there's some carbon deposits in there, but I would like those cleaned and coated as well.

Thanks, Shannon

Hello Shannon:

Everything gets thermally degreased to break down all the organics and then they are blasted prior to coating. With muffler type parts we generally insert a small plug a short distance in the pipe to prevent any media from entering the muffler but still allowing us to coat the exposed surfaces of the tips. Email or call with the particulars on the part, I.e. Lenths, tubing size etc and I can get you the other info.

Thanks

so, you're saying my muffler is not Borla, but is GHL? Either way, just glad to know who makes it...

Q: who made the RUF quad-tip version? RUF?

My bad it is a Borla(brain fart) but I do have the GHL headers.

On the RUF quad tips...I believe it was basically factory Porsche turbo tips on both sides on a Ruf performance muffler..

I'm glad it was a 'brain fart' - - because you really had me with it not being a borla...

I'm getting an o2 bung welded in, then I'll decide where i'm going to send it to get ceramic coated...

BTW: I threw it on and cranked it yesterday. It's a lot quieter than the Hooligan or the Monty I had previously. I'm sure I'll get used to it...

We have performed numerous tests of exhaust coatings rated at 1800F and they have all failed.

Anything less than a 2,000F coating is a waste of effort on these air-cooled Turbos.

If you want the best solution in my opinion contact PTP turbo blankets. I have the titanium lava exhaust housing blanket on my turbo and the matching wrap on other hot items. You can put your hand on the blanket and it will not burn you. HUGE underhood temp decrease along with much cooler intake temps.

PTP Turbo Blankets - (512) 490-6494

I have had great luck with their stuff. Tell them Eric Hood sent you, and they will take care of you!

I don't think they have the new lava line listed on their website. I have a t4 based turbo so I run that blanket. Not sure what size would fit best. I will see if I can get an answer for you!

I emailed my friend there, and asked him about your application. I forwarded the link as well. Maybe they will chime in with some tech for us.
