915 gearbox oil

Hello freaks

For the first time, I will change gearbox oil on my 1976 930. Normally I put GL5 Castrol LS 90 transmission oil on my 911T (901 gearbox)

What do you prefer for the Turbo 915 gearbox?

Thank you.

Best Regards
Jesper, Denmark

Hi

Thank you, I heard only good things about Swepco 201. But please tell me, some use Redline 75W 90NS, and some Swepco 201. What du you guys prefer to your 930 tranny? I need some technical advice to choose the Redline or the Swepco.

Again thank you for your help.

Best regards

I'm sure you'll find guys that use Swepco, Redline, Dino, Mobil and any number of other brands...but most use Swepco. Take it for what it's worth...I use what the majority recommends. What other "technical advice" are you looking for?

I've run redline, amsoil, and swepco...I won't use anything but swepco in my 930....my bmws used to prefer amsoil. but the 930 loves her swepco.

Sorry to open this thread again but, some Porsche specialist told me that the Swepco 203 is a lot better for the 930 tanny. What shall I do? 201 or 203?

You'll find 20 guys who will recommend 201...now you find one "specialist" who throws in the 203....this has become overly complicated. Keep looking and asking and I'm sure you'll find someone who recommends yet another great product.

I am sorry if I have been of any inconvenience. It is just that I newer have serviced my Porsche 930, and I used all my savings for that car, so I have to absolutely sure to put in the tranny. I do not have money to rebuild the tranny if something goes wrong. I want the best of the best for my Porsche, so that’s way I ask, sorry.

This forum have the best of the best Porsche freaks, that’s way I ask you guys.

Best regards

Jesper: I can understand your anxiety over wanting to make sure you get the right product for your car...especially given the fact you're on a very strict budget. Porsches are usually not conducive to a very tight budget...especially when starting out. They always require some "fix--its" regardless of how meticulous the previous owner was.

Be assured that the Swepco 201 is an excellent choice for your transmission. In additon to the Swepco, you should probably make sure that the transmission linkeage is set properly...a poorly adjusted transmission can make it difficult to shift and hard on the gears and syncro rings....best of luck to you with your new car ownership.

if your 76 has a limited slip, I'd go with the 210, not the 201.

Jesper; I understand and do not agree with "Jesper: I can understand ... given the fact you're on a very strict budget. Porsches are usually not conducive to a very tight budget..." Budget away and then you can buy a second Porsche!
PS Any further info in the 201 vs the 203 (with moly) debate?? Tx Bri
