Thanks Trond...have subscribed....is this man mad??! Has he seriously go the facilities to replicate every part, or is he going to source as many genuine 962 parts as possible and then fabricate the chassis around them? Whats he going to do for engine/box?

Kudos to him for having the balls to do it! How long does he anticipate the project taking?

Cheers
Spencer.

Hi Spencer,

I agree, an insane and cool project :-)
It will be a 911 air cooled engine at about 6-700+ hp.

He has now joined the forum and will be able to answer your question better than me :-)
But he will build a close to spec as possible. That includes original 962 wheel hubs etc...

Hi Trond, wow....just wow!

I did see at Le Mans one year, a guy who had built a replica 917 in (predictable but gorgeous) JW Gulf livery. It was a thing of beauty from what I could see, but none of the covers were open, and frankly I'm nowhere near proficient enough to tell faithful replica from anything else. But it certainly had a big crowd around it, and the guy was very open and chatty about the project. IIRC it was powered by a 993 GT2 engine.

Anyway, look forward to reading more!

Hi guys,
Just got an update from my friend (Proj_962_Norway) who is building this 962.
He sent me an updated picture of where he's at in the build.

I remember timing these monsters at Watkins glen in the late '80s. The 962 remains one of my favorite race cars of all time.

Sounds great :-) Must have been nice to be parts of that.
Also one of my favorite.

He has most of the measurements. Still misses some measures of the front A-arm to complete the Monocoque.
Also needs the steel cage measurements.

Please send me a PM if some of you have access to a 962 and would be kind to make some measurements. Will give more detailed info of what he needs. That would be very helpful

Of all the race cars David Hobbs has driven, he says his favorite is the Porsche 962.

I think Kremer built at least one. Maybe they would help with measurement info. Driven by M Andretti and others with significant success in 1983.

Fabcar repaired most of the crashed 962 chassis in the USA and built the later 962C chassis. Maybe you can get the information you want from them.
Previous Projects | Fabcar Engineering

"When the 962 came out, FABCAR started to repair crashed monocoques for just about all of the teams racing these cars. Dave actually flew to Germany to repair two monocoques for Joest Racing. FABCAR scratch built several monocoques for some teams including Al Holbert and Rob Dyson and Hotchkiss Racing. This got the attention of the Porsche Factory. They contracted with FABCAR to build all of their Group-C monocoques. FABCAR also did all of the factory monocoque repairs worldwide. FABCAR also made a lot of suspension components for the 962 including some special steel uprights that the factory ran at Lemans."
