headlight switch wiring

got a new headlight switch today because the other one was acting funny, or so i thought. I removed the old one and connected all the wires correctly. found a few posts that show the wires and locations to verify. thing is i have a extra yellow wire? last year when i was buttoning up some wiring i found a yellow wire that was disconnected and i figured it went into the switch as it was right near a location that had a empty plug on it. i had just had a new alarm installed so i figured that something must not have gotten placed back. this wire is not factory. wrong end on it. but the connector is newer and i know the PO had major electrical issues with the car so i am thinking they ran some new wire? well this yellow wire is what activates the headlights to come up. left unplugged nothing happens, plugged into one of the empty spots it raises and lowers the headlights. thing is when you dim the new switch the headlights dim as well. yeah thats not right! any one with a slant have a pic of the headlight switch wiring? also the new switches have a additional plug on the back? what is it for? thanks for any info you can share!

ok so i stand corrected, the yellow wire is to be there! i looked at some more posts of wiring harnesses and i see that it is for the low beams. so what i think happened is that someone had unplugged it and plugged one of the dimmer wires into it? the blue and black wires that come off the backs side of the switch go to the instruments so i am told. one of my blue wires has a plastic connector end on it to connect to something but i cant see anything to plug it into? all of the instruments are lit up? if any one has any other pics or might know where the blue/blk wire might go to??

ok so i just opened a pandoras box under the dash. i think i have multiple wires that are plugged in wrong. if any one has any good pics of the wires under the dash that would great. the area i am looking at is under the speedometer steering wheel etc. or even a good wiring diagram for a 84 would be helpful as long as the colors are there? i just don't know what goes to where? and what the wires are actually doing? they are coming out wire bundles so i assume they are all factory.

some pics of the wires in question?

under the driver side of the dash, i just replaced my headlight switch and found a few wires that were plugged together but the ends were not matching up? everything was working fine as far as i knew? i am trying to figure out what they go to, it seems obvious what ends match up to what but i want to make sure that something else down the line was not changed because these were wrong?
