930 with 98,000 miles..rebuild time?

86 930 with sc cams, twin plugged, k27 S turbo , Autronic EFI, g-50 conversion, Zucz headers.
Car runs great, leak down numbers all in 6-7% range, oil consumption about 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles. Car doesn"tb low oil, great power.
Sooooo, I've spoken with a few people that say it's time to rebuild just do to the mileage.
Any feedback?
Thanks...

If oil pressure is good and consumption is low, why bother?
It probably got a top end job when it was twin plugged. It sounds healthier than mine!

No way! Drive it and enjoy it. Keep the maintenance up, drive it regularly, and it should give you another 50k miles easily.

When you lose compression or it starts taking about a quart of oil per 500 miles.

Keep driving it and check compression when the valves are adjusted.

I acquired an '82 ROW (Canadian) 930 last winter with 154,000 km (<100,000 miles) that came with a detailed service history; last engine out service at 142,000 km. Leak down and compression numbers were all very good, considering the mileage.

I have done 3 oil changes (one as soon as I got it + full tune up) using Mobil 1 20W50 synthetic, putting 7,000 kms on the car over the summer. If it sits for a week there is a puff of smoke on start-up, but other than than it burns very little oil. Absolutely not one drop of oil on the garage floor, although a slight odor of burnt oil on hot days on shutdown. Two quirks; starts great when cold but there is a slight miss under load for the first 5-7 minutes of warm up, and runs too hot when idling in traffic for my liking. Plan to check the usual suspects as per the great info on this Board over the winter for the miss, and will upgrade the front trombone cooler.

I guess my point is that I expected the turbo to be lots of headaches at this mileage with some risk that a rebuild was likely to be on the immediate horizon. These cars obviously respond well to good maintenance and regular, spirited driving. The experience of driving the 930 is not overstated on this BB - it is exhilarating!

Cheers

I've got 91K on mine, and would not even think about a rebuild yet, not for a long time to come.

264,000km for me and no expectation of a rebuild anytime soon. Good oil pressure, good power, and no smoke. At 4,000 km per year I'll plan the rebuild for retirement in 20 years.

I am at 121K and still pulls as strong as it did at 34K. No oil leaks, and usually no smoke at startup, if it does, it is just a small puff. I'll keep driving it....

I told Dr. Drew to just drive the damn thing, but the good doctor against my sound advice insist that he must do the top end. I think he is lusting after my TK engine.

I passed the 100K mark some long time ago. No issues, still kicks ass, and I'll drive it until something "serious" makes me think of rebuilding. But by then, I won't be able to afford it most likely. So, drive on! Keep up on the routine maintenance religiously and stay off the track.

I've never understood that logic. I've heard it, but no one who says it has ever given me a good reason for it. As long as everything works fine, why bother with the expense? I think I've got about 98K miles on mine, but it does have some oil leaks that may need attention in the medium-length future.
