kenikh,
He meant 8, 10* of idle advance! Not AFR.

I set 500 RPM at 25 degrees, idle rpm at 12 degrees and cold Idle RPM at 19 degrees. Starts and idles smooth as silk. The extea timing at cold crank rpm is magical.

Please heed my warnings. Do not turn on EGO control until the car is fully tuned. KEEP IT OFF. The correction algorithms can give you false feedback when you are trying to tune. EGO correction is not a substitute for tuning. Your tuning process will take a lot longer and not be as accurate if you turn these corrections on now.

I am not sure why you were seeing the AFR enrich by reducing the req_fuel. That is a global multiplier. Lower req_fuel is less fuel. higher req_fuel is more fuel.

What was happening is that you were so rich you could not burn all the fuel and you have a false lean condition. Eventually you leaned it out to the point where you were closer to some mixture that would actually ignite.

I suggest you do some more time reading the tuning sections in the manuals before you start changing parameters. I don't want to see you have an issue now that you have reached this milestone.

Looking at your VE tables your low rpm, low MAP bins have very high numbers. This is why the car was so rich. You will likely have to decrease the VE bin values by somewhere around 1.44X (0.69) and get your req_fuel value back up to your starting point of 8.3. What will happen is that you will be pumping a lot of fuel under boost. The max value you can enter on a VE table is 255. I guess you will hit that value and not have enough fuel flowing. So you increase the req_fuel and decrease the VE table by the same amount. This is part of the scaling that needs to be setup for your particular engine.
OK cool, I'll turn EGO off again.

I've just been reading about the VE tables & Req_Fuel and how you can scale them so as you said I'll get adjusting those to allow me to flow as much fuel as possible if needed. Thanks all your info explains a lot

I did my timing when I first out the turbo on and now can't remember what I set!
I know the MSD Boost Retards works OK and retards.

I'll have to get my own timing light and recheck.

I think I may have set idle at factory spec! and at 0.5bar I it was set so the MSD can retard back to 15 or 18 when set in max retard using its adjustable knob.

Did a bit of tuning over the weekend.

Saturday:
Car wouldn't start unless I richened the Req_Fuel so I tweaked and richened up the Cranking Pulse Width and it now fire's up fine from cold and the Req_Fuel is left as is.

With Auto Tune running everything went fine, I started getting on boost a little more each time and eventually got to 4K.
Watching the AFR & Boost gauge it gets to 0.5 bar and holds there from about 3.5K and AFR drops to aprox 11 and holds.

I ended up trying 5K twice but found I got a little boost spike both times and since then it didn't run quite as well that day with some hesitation or possible miss fire under boost.

Sunday:
Reset Fuel VE back to stock.

Warmed car up and started Auto Tune again.
All seemed ok, no missing and back to nice clean pulls to 4.5K.

Haven't tried high rpm pulls since.

Was thinking of doing a service, oil, plugs, rotor and cap then see what happens.

I injector wise all seems fine so far, on boost Fuel VE cells are only on 120's to 130's and are providing enough fuel upto around 4.5K
Will have to wait until after the service to try 5k pulls again and see what happens.

Got a few pics of the new windscreen decals :

Been running the Auto Tune function which is going well, changed from 'Very Easy' to just 'Easy' now in the cell change option.
Car pulled all weekend to 5K without any issues (apart from the ones below lol).

Still have two issues to sort out though.

1. At 3K rpm there is what I'm assuming is a miss fire but its only there about 70% or more of the time. Sometimes you can only just detect it and other times the car stumbles and hesitates.

2. In idle when you blip the throttle there is a momentary lag. Plus when driving the car on light throttle it tents to hesitate and not pull smoothly in the lower rpm ranges. After some googling it maybe that I need to adjust the 'Acceleration Enrichment' settings but its suggested you do this after the Fuel VE table is setup correctly so I'll leave this issue for now.

It appears I also get an AFR spike with the miss fire.

I just installed NGK BPR7ES spark plugs and will be doing a cap and rotor change next week end.
I'm running an MSD Digital 6AL and I know that changes from single spark to dual spark around 3000rpm, would that be something to investigate?

Below are two images showing the 'miss fire' at 2900-3000rpm
Top white line = rpm
Top red line = Boost psi

Bottom red line = afr

Fitted the new cap and rotor, moved as much as possible of the EFI wires away from any of the Magnecor leads but I still get a miss a lot of the time at 2900rpm

Anyone got any ideas of what I should look at next?

You are experiencing the same as I am. RPM troughs with sawtooth.

This is why I am going to LS2/truck coils and ditching the Ford EDIS system.

I hope this goes away. Yours is far worse than mine though.

Did you have this problem before you switched to EFI?

No never had the problem before EFI, only since going EFI.
Other's run EFI fuel control only with no issues so it can only be something to do with my setup.

I'm assuming as I didn't change or do anything with the timing and it didn't have the issue before EFI that it shouldn't be a timing issue right?

If it's interference I would of thought I would get missfires all over the place not just at a specific rpm only. What would cause a missfire only at a specific rpm and nowhere else in the rev range?

Been a while and not really had much time to use the car much this year

Found a place about 1.5 hours away that has lots of Megasquirt experience and a rolling road that will look at and tune the car. They also do there own turbo conversion kit for the Mazda MX5 so they know a bit about turboing a NA motor.

Next project is to add a TPS.

Been doing some searching and doesn't look to hard to modify the 3.0 SC throttle body.
Looks like a TPS off an E36 BMW would do the trick, but just wanted to run that by your guys to double check?

Decided to upgrade the intercooler from the twin pass to a bespoke made setup.
It will be very close to the one pictured below.
Overall size's will be length 26", depth 12", height 3" with 3" in and out (thinking this should be OK for 0.5 to 0.8bar)?
(Core size is 20", depth 12", height 3")

Not sure if I should should go power coated black or stay brushed aluminium

Also a local Porsche specialist maybe giving me a hand with the Microsquirt setup.
So fingers crossed I may get the little bugs sorted out and get to install EDIS6, boost solenoid, knock control and TPS.

I almost never post, but when i do, it`s nonsense. However, your car is the coolest slant i`ve ever seen. Really love the look of it! WOW! Subscribed!

Might need some expertise when i go ahead with my MS install
