Long trip in the 930 to the Ozarks.

So after all the troubles my 930 has given me over the last year, I just finished a 1400 mile trip with the car to the PCA Escape to the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, AR.

I was a little worried and apprehensive the entire trip but upon rolling home to my own driveway under my own power it was very rewarding.

Although my car was by far the most "driver" quality car there I didn't care. My goal was just to get here and back without drama and enjoy the ride.

I'll try to post some pics of the fireballs I was throwing out of the exhaust when I get them.

I have to say though I had to put fuel mileage at the back of my mind, as it was by far the largest share of the cost. Worth it though all thing considered.

I grew up in Tulsa and I remember the trips we would do to Eureka Springs with me riding in the back of the car. It was a very nauseating experience in a Ford.

I would bet that it was quite a thrill in a 930! I am looking forward to the pics. Nice time of year to drive up there as well!!

Glad you could make it to PCA Escape (nee Porsche Palooza). There are some very nice driving roads around Eureka Springs. The drive up from central Arkansas is at least half of the fun for our group.

Very nice! While my car is still new to me - the only real roadtrip I've done was driving it 850 miles from Phoenix back to Denver (via state highways - no Interstates) but am looking forward to doing some before too long. That has always been an especially fun part of owning a toy car, in my opinion. My old toy car was an '84 Audi Quattro (aka Turbo Quattro Coupe) that I had upgraded seriously - and did many, many roadtrips - including 4500 miles in 6 days - Denver to Connecticut and back plus others - Moab, Las Vegas, Monterey, etc.

Glad you had a fun and uneventful trip.

I head out tomorrow on a 500 X2 mile road trip from New Orleans to Austin F1. Can't wait...

Hoping that fuel is my largest expense, too!!

Mooney265,

It should be fun. I will be doing a similar trip even though I live in Austin. I have to fly in and out of Houston because it's so busy at the airport. I will be at the F1 also on the weekend. I'm going to miss the activities Friday due to travel. Are you going to go to the Salt Lick on Saturday night for the PCA Corral? I'll look for your slant nose.

Leonard,
It was great to meet you. That was my first PCA event and a great one at that. You along with your team did an incredible job! I also liked your very nice 79! I am going to have to borrow your bumper ventilation idea. I plan on bringing the wife next year if she wants to do the drive from Austin.

Leonard's car closest to the building.

I think there is a shuttle. You should have gotten directions emailed to you from the organizer. Logistics seems to be the challenge from my standpoint locally. I am relying on others as I am buried with work. Ooo the airport is going to be rough. I have to go in and out of Houston to make anything happen. We always thought SxSW or ACL was rough, this is a whole new deal for this town. Comfy Austin just got a wake up call! Thank goodness I live in North Austin area.

Well, let me just say that I know John's relief at successfully making this trip. Without going into detail he put a lot of effort into the car to have it running reliably for the trip. It is so good to see it finally on the road. Let's just say that when you buy a car that has been sitting for a long time it takes just as much time to get it sorted.

John, the 930 looks great next to its brethren. Its a bit faster than some of our old cars here in Austin. Besides my targa does not spit flames and it feels out of place.

Brandon, Here are details on the Salt Lick event. I am pretty sure its sold out.

Hill Country Region of the Porsche Club of America

There is also a Friday night dinner for some or our group here in town (and out of town). You are welcome to drop by.

details: US Grand Prix - Austin. Friday NIght Gathering

I know what you mean about travel plans. I had to cancel a trip this week because I could not get back to Austin until next week due to booked flights.

Thanks Jamie. You, as always have been extraordinarily helpful and a great resource as well as Morrie and others. I would not be into these cars like I am if it weren't for the great support and friendship of those here and on the forum. As they say, "It takes a village"...

Hopefully in time I can give back equally as well.

I noticed on the link, there is going to be a DE at COTA!!! OOOO! I might be able to see first handed my tax dollars at work. (Yes, COTA got a lot of support from local municipalities). Not complaining just sayin...
