I guess I meant always in going from OEM to permatune, if one replaces the OEM cdi w a permatune cdi, one should also replace the coil with a permatune coil.

So, those guys were good to deal with? Could you post a picture of your new unit, just curious if they are all they say they are... Thanks!

Too late, already in car but it looks brand new. Not sure of the clear coat on it but definitely bead blasted and new decals. I will try to get some shots of it but it looks awesome. I can't open it because they put a tamper seal on it but you can't beat a 5 yr warranty.

My old epoxy coil checked out fine so I cleaned it up and put it back in. I did also manage to get an almost new epoxy one (Thanks Todd). Once the semi new one arrives I will swap them out and keep my original one as a spare.

Still on the hunt for a NOS coil though!

my 31/1 goes directly to the coil on my car. but, at the CD onnector, there is also a larger brown wire tied in with the br/w wire from the coil. that wire is attached to the stud next to the coil.
hi current makes something like that blow. a short in the coil windings perhaps. maybe even the + to the coil shorting to the - from the coil.
