My first non-turbo Porsche

Sorry to spam with a non-turbo Porsche.

Just bought my first non-turbo Porsche, a 1972 914/6 GT replica.
At least for now is does not have a turbo

Have not decided what route to go, keeping the 2.2 carbed engine or replace it with a turbo engine.
Have a 3.2 engine that I have not decided weather I should rebuild to stock or build to a twin-turbo.

How cool would it be with a twin-turboed 914/6

My first 914 - 914/6 GT project

I've always been a huge fan of the 914/914-6. I never really understood why they don't get much respect. They are great little cars that are a blast to drive... and I think they look great. Can't wait to see what you do. Any way you go it will be a fun ride.

Trond:

I'm jealous as hell. I've always wanted to build a 914 turbo car with
the AIR 935 body kit, I don't have enough time left to do it but my best
friend and Master Painter Bob is going to do one. i made him promise he
will come pick up my ashes and take me for a spin when it's done.

Ya have to do a build thread for this one !!!!!!

Probably because they are utterly gutless in stock form (I've owned two of them in the past) . . .

It looks fantastic.

Definetly turbo charge that 3.2. I wouldnt even bother with twins. The results people are getting from single GT-xx are impressive.

Now you have showed us the picture, and it has been said. There is no going back

Good luck

You already have the brutish 930 big bore Turbo. Keep the small bore 2.2 and turbo it. Row the gears use the RPM and keep with the character of the car.
I love my 2.4 turbo. Probably will never install the 3.0L Turbo or 3.6 twin turbo motors I have sitting in the shop.

Wonder what components to upgrade to make the 71' 911 2,2 engine withstand turbo power.
A short stroke 2,2 turbo could be nice to try out

You're right Ronnie. But, it isn't always about horsepower. I love VW beetles with only 39HP (I think). Sure, they are slow but that doesn't matter. Beetles and 914's are just fun, regardless of speed.

Well as much as I would not mind having a 914 with a powerful V8 engine (and cheap parts), I think I would stick to Porsche engines.
They are safe, easy to work on - a purist, not really. Just love the Porsche engines :-)

EJ257 is the 2.5l turbo flat 4 motor from a subaru that fits nice in the 914.

Understood on sticking to the porsche engine though.

There is a guy on the lotus forums that mated a 914 chassis with a subaru motor and the double wishbone suspension from an elise. Brilliant and ambitious chap, I say!

Anyways your car looks great, just bsing a bit

The car looks fun as is. If you go wild tires and big bore then you have engine torque/super-wide tire grip and THE tranny problem.

Keep the 2.2L. It is already short stroke. Torque stays low off boost. This is a very light car, add the turbo and you will be surprised by it's performance.

Before there were "factory turbo motors" and "engines built to turbo specs" we put turbos on motors. Do that to this one.

Here is my formula:
Used K16 from 993/996, add W/G adjustment
CIS or EFI (if you want to spend a lot of money needlessly).
MSD with program feature.
Split Second 7th injector (programmable)
W/M injection
Hook up the pipes.
Drain oil back to chain or camshaft cover.
Install Boost, A/F ratio gages

Do not listen to all the B.S. about MAG crankcase, std. studs, iron cylinders and cast pistons. In 1970-1971 ALL 911 motors were exotic premium motors...still are. All these things are adequate at reasonable boost levels. Make 220-240HP and have a good time.

A 914-6 is definitely on my short list for the near future.

What may well be the ugliest modification to a 914 ever made is available for your entertainment on eBay."Serious buyers only", mind you.
