Have you guys tried a patch panel? Cut the old gutter and clean/stitch weld it. Then put a patch panel over it?

Like this cross section?

If I was going to do it again (since I was also removing the sunroof), I would buy a whole new roof panel, take off the old one, carefully remove all of the sealant and tack over the lip that was intended to form the rain gutter.

But that is a lot of work and cost as well.

Your idea would work, but you would definitely need to lead the edges of the patch, plus the recontouring might be noticeable, particularly in the tumblehome behind the side window where the curves are particularly flowing and alluring.

The other variation on theme is to not grind the edges of the gutter completely flat and flush, but leave them up a little and then fair that into the roof.

Face it, it is a gorgeous result but very painful to do.....

Thanks anyway

Guys, soon gutters will be history. Will post some pics as soon I meet the car or my shop sends me. Check my built thread for updates:

Let me know if you need some tips... Welding is a pain in the ass as there is lead behind the rolled steel panels. I'll post up some pics of my in progress sots. For some reason, Pelican dumped all my pics from my build thread before page 15 new member 930 project .

Here's a link to the complete build library on Facebook. It's public, so everyone should be able to see it.

If not, here are some pics.

Make sure to do sections at a time. I was also doing a sunroof delete when I flushed mine>>

Lots of small welds then grinding, then spots on top again.

There is a lot of welding wire used on your car, looks like a bunch of work. Thanks for posting pics!

At the moment, it lays in the hands of my body shop, he says it will be fine, so I trust him, as his work until now was flawless
