Strange VIN #

Does anyone know whether this VIN # is legit ? The car is with slant nose body but with non-turbo engine. Strange.

I would say it's a real VIN tag on a euro car that is as old as dirt

not really!
a correct VIN tag looks like that:

see the complete VIN and the type approval number.

17 digit VIN's didn't start until the 70's, that tag is real and is on a car built in the 60's or early 70's.

They didn't start on Porsche's until 1981.

hello,

sake of simplicity only so much, otherwise there are indeed enough explanations on the internet:

the first Porsche 911 VINs (1964-1967) have had 6 digits.
the VINs from 1968-1969 have had 9 digits, starts with 1...
the VINs from 1970-1979 have had 10 digits, starts with 911..
the VINs in 1980 have had 10 digits, starts with 91AO...
the VINs from 1981 to today have 17 digits, starts with WPOZZZ...

the VIN in the first post have 9 digits, starts with 4, is written on an lable with a 964... part number - please decide for yourself whether something fits the above...

It looks like a state retag when its retagged after the insurance is paid and making the car legal to sell.
There should still be an embossment near the smugglers box,

Regardless of year 914 vins always start with 47 and the year of production in the 3rd position. No 914 vin ever started 48.
