Interesting 935 Replica FS - opinions?

I am in no way affiliated with the seller, just wondering what you guys think about this one:

Just the fact that it started as an '87 Carrera, still has all the Carrera suspension parts and suspension pick up points, would make me walk away at that price. He could probably part it out, and get what he is asking?

Unfinished, unknown variable projects are a major crap shoot. Although, there seems to have been a huge amount of money thrown at this, so???

If anybody is game for this one, I have a '75 Jag XJ6C with a Chevy 502, XJ40 suspension blah, blah, blah that I'd be willing to let go......

Mark

something like that iwould have to see in person before buying. also, look at ALL receipts (this got me on my 930), and talk to who built the motor and has worked onthe car.

its like the twin turbo 77 911 that i saw listed. awesome looking car, but in the end it is a 77 911. so you have to think about what you want and what you want for your money. if you want a "good deal" on a build/parts that will save you money building something like that, go for it. but if you are looking 10 years down the road like i was and what it will be worth, then you might consider something else. in the end, i went with a nice 930.
when i was looking at how much i was going to dump into my 77s, the 930 was looking like a better deal. i would never get the money back out of the 77.

the cool factor on driving something like that, awesome.

It is a small world sometimes.
Saw this last night, and told my mate Dave dennet from DSD Motorwerks who has unit space in my yard about it. Lunchtime, the guy who owns this car rang Dave up looking to PX it against his 964 race car he campained last year.
He had a quick chat with Richard from CTR developments who reputedly built the engine, which checks out and made strong power.
Down side is it probably still needs 20K spent on it to get going. You have to ask yourself what these things are worth done, although Malton have a lovely DP935 car for sale at 224,000!!!

I know of a real 935 that was re-tubbed with a late 80's carrera. still has the carrera pick up points. the pick up points aren't a big deal.

Thanks guys! Of course one would have to look at it, and in this case even with someone that knows 935's...

Looks like if you have a lot of time and knowhow, manage to negotiate the price down -> this could be fun !

but backing away for lack of time (and $), as usual

Deal is done.
This car now resides not 60 foot from my office chair!
A mountain to climb, but it does have some goodies, not least of which is James Elsons original 964 lump worked on first by ninemeister! but brought good by CTR Developments. I think total engine build was getting on for 50,000.
Dave at DSD was busy yesterday ringing round for parts, and is planning to race the car when finished (unless someone walks in and waves money under his nose as often happens!)

That car seems reasonably priced in a comparative way. Here is one @ Elkhart Lake Raod & Track concours in 2009. Asking was around $800 K and they have gone way higher since in recent auctions. My wife was holding the keys in a desperate move to keep me from mortgaging the house and kids. She won, however it would have been nice, especially that it is easily worth twice now.

Well it hasn't cleared the reserve yet so for all we know, they may be asking substantially more...

Still going, now almost $400K. Originally a 934 and period upgraded to 934.5. If upgrades are done right with factory parts it still has good value. I know of another real 934 upgraded with a 962 motor and a correct 935 Kremer body upgrade. Maybe I should keep a close eye out if this one goes much higher now that factory built 935's have been sold over 2 mil and Kremers not too far behind.

Now $495K for a modded 934!. I guess modded turbos do have interest to some that like ones that are properly upgraded.

Well it ended at $640K without reaching the reserve. Private bidding so no way to tell... I wonder whether it was just 2-3 bidders going at it or a broader set of potential buyers.

[QUOTE=voitureltd;7381492]Always just the last two, everyone bidding before were just hoping so they might bid more next time at auction for another. [/QUOTE

Still seems reasonable @ $640K. The owner appears to be a Pelican Member with more than one great Porsche race car. Lee88, maybe he will let you know the story of the number of interested bidders or the price expected?

Tony
One of our old cars that went to Bruce then to rudy junco and then Bud Bennet. Now in Europe and sold for under 700K about 3 years ago when the everything was a bit more scary in the world with the economy... It is a legit Kremer 000013

When we first got it

The yellow 935 #84 on ebay had multiple bidders a few of which I have talked to about buying the car previously. Since I have raced this car in some vintage events and owned it since around 2004 many of the potential buyers just emailed or called me directly when they saw it on ebay. I had an offer higher than the high bid but still not enough. This car was upgraded to 935 spec with all the best 935 parts, upside down gear box, 3.2 twin turbo, the bigger 935 Lockheed calipers, 935 sway bars and 935 titanium axles. So it is not a cobbeled together car it is a legit 935 that finished 8th over all at the daytona 24 Hour in 1981 and 10th at the Molson 1000 in 1981 .

Though the subject car is very nice I would not consider it a 935 replica. It has a 935 nose on it . This is my 935 replica with 3.6 twin turbo and unpside down gear box. Car is now in England with a new owner as of last month.
