Modern Turbo for 3.6L build...suggestions
Ok. It has taken me 2 years to finally finish building the 94 3.6L motor. We shuffle pinned the case. Used ARP head studs and Rod bolts. Keeping the CIS. Larry at CIS FLOWTECH will upgrade the head for more flow. This will be a 80% street car and 20% track. Mostly running pump gas. Running the S2 factory 4" thick full bay intercooler. Twin scroll headers with T4 flange. Goal is 500-600hp.....Now the big question....
What modern Turbo? I had a chance to test drive cars at Underground Racing in Charlotte and they only use Preciscion ball bearing Turbos. The owner told me that out of 500 turbos.. they have only had 3 fail. He said that they run very cool and are oil cooled. Why not use one on our Porsche engines? They suggested the 6466 7 blade Ball bearing Twin scroll turbo..... A/R can be .84 or 1.0 or 1.15 or 1.32... Which would be best for our 930's? What about other brands... Garrett? Comp? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks |
I am having TurboKraft fit a Turbonetics billet 6162 turbo to my CIS car and should have dyno results in a couple of weeks. It is basically a GTK 550 with a different compressor cover. Billet compressor wheel, inconel turbine wheel and ceramic bearings. I sourced from Bisimoto and except for the oil supply line it is a bolt on affair which doesn't matter with your set up, but great for us T3 guys. I'm hoping for close to 400 wheel horsepower but improved spool and tip in response over the modified K27 7200 I was running. I know its not an apples to apples comparison, but import guys are seeing 700 horses from this turbo. Will post a dyno chart when available...

What turbo did UGR recommend? I would go with their suggestions and guidance. Those guys are great.
RSRfan has some great points and is obviously having a trick turbo made for his 930. Yasin |
I recently toured the Borg Warner factory and was blown away by their R&D, testing and quality control. They build turbos for Indy Car as well as many OEM applications.
If you're looking for the best, I suggest looking into their Airwerks or top of the line EFR turbos. |
AskewRSR - can you provide any more motor specs, ex: head work, cams, headers, muffler... Done more than our share of 3.6 Turbos, CIS and EFI, happy to share.

Thanks Chris. I will contact you. Can't wait to hear about Linc's engine run on the dyno. Great advice from everyone. Thanks again, Tate
