86 Slant with 12k miles FS in San Diego

This car was brought to my attention today. I don't know anything about the car, but I bought my current 930 from these guys, and it was a good transaction.

1986 Used Porsche 930 Slantnose at Sports Car Company, Inc. Serving La Jolla, IID 10217765

Yeah I read the overview and it states "1986 was the undisputed BEST year of the Turbos." Really? because you're selling one? I didn't see the 505 or possible euro 506 option code under the hood

I'm no expert on slants but didn't all the factory cars come with round headlights?

I emailed Sports Car Company a few days ago to inquire if it was a factory 505 car and never got a response.

yeah definitely not a factory slant with the square headlights. 79K is a little steep for a conversion that is not using the factory parts. a similar red one sold out here with more miles at barret jackson for the 30K range last winter.

These guys are clearly in the business. Shame on them, then, for referring to this car as "original" when they must know it's a conversion. And if they don't know ...

maybe you guys have not spent much time on the 930 market lately. i have seen worse, not that it looks bad, for 80k. i spent nearly a year looking for a 930. there are quite a few out there over priced. had a guy email with a 60k mile car and wanting 50k for it. look on rennlist. there was another 80k car. i would say that might be one of the few out there that could pull 80k. if its truely a 12k mile car, with no issues i could see it going for that. after all, whats 2 front fenders? too bad they dont have the original fenders to go with it.

to me, the weak point is the wheels.
the other thing is a 27 year old car thats been sitting? whats the CIS, the fuel tank, and lines like from sitting?

It is not just turbos! Take a look at the 145k-ish mile late 80's Carrera's asking $25-35k. I don't know what their getting for them, and I have been looking at least every week for awhile now, but most are staying for sale for a real long time.

12k mile car, if the AC works, it won't for very long after you start driving it. CIS, injector blocks are probably cracked. That cost me around $4500 for repairs. Hoses, seals, ect. What continues to surprise me on mine, and it has 52k miles, is no oil leaks and I am running synthetic oil. ( knock on wood)

I agree on the wheels thing. Very few know about the headlights, but the wheels are obviously not stock.

They are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, but $80k seems like a lot.

86 had some good features.

my brother knows the details better. he wanted an 86 for some reason. some of the things he mentioned to me was the fog lights, the AC vents and there may have been others.
i was just looking for a good 930.

mark
i did see a lot of the carreras going for upper 20's even low 30's. i did not look into them but i could not figure out why someone would pay that for a 3.2 when they could get a 930.
for me it was also about the value of the car. whats a 30k 3.2 going to sell for in 10 years vs a 930? sure it will go up, but not as much.
i also think some people see the name PORSCHE and think its worth twice what it is.

whats with the injector blocks? i have an air leak i cant find. part of it is i think the sealing of the IC. the intake was off about 4k miles ago by the PO so i think they would have found any bad blocks. are they visibly noticeable?
when i get some other things done i am thinking of pulling the intake system.

I went around a corner one day and bang!

The blocks are made of plastic so one of them split out causing all kinds of un pleasentness in the CIS. My car sat for about 13 years so I kind of expected that kind of thing. My AC is leaking so I need to address that next. It only holds a charge for a few weeks. Kind of the same issue from sitting all those years.
