Air Injection Plug
Had an air injection plug blow out last night from Nr 1 cylinder of my 1982 Euro 930. I found identical replacement plugs on Partsklassic.com.
Anyone have any recommendations regarding who to buy them from and since one blew out should I change the remaining five? Any special installation procedures to ensure they don't blow out again? Thanks ![]() |

I got mine from Patrick racing. Read here on the forums that some guys had them loosen & back out. I have not had this happen. I did not use any locktite. If your threads are in good shape just replace & check others for snugness.

I had one come out on my 2.7. man that was loud. scared the crap out of me.
you need to check the threads to make sure they are still good. i used epoxy on it the first time and that lasted about 2yrs. I ended up putting in a helicoil because the threads stripped out the first time I don't think what you put In matters if the threads are good unless the plugs are different lengths. IE, a short threaded plug may not be good.

As best I could see the threads looked OK, but will find out when I put the replacement one back in. I will also go around and check the other (5).

had them blow out before even with red loctite. the temp is too high for the loctite. I took a center punch punched a small divot in the threads of each one. it doesnt destroy the threads but they will not back out.

All the others were tight so that was good. I ran a 10X1.0 tap up there in the Nr 1 cyl air port, cleaned the threads but when that plug blew out it ripped out the threads. So I put a new plug in but without much thread depth remaining in the head I could not get any bite. So I ended up installing a Helicoil and reinstalled the plug. The plug is in tight now and I took the car out for a test ride...all good!

A 1/8 NPT plug is very close to the same size. If your threads are a little messed up, the taper on the pipe plug might do the trick. They're available at NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc.

Good repair, Capt. Bob.
We use metric shouldered plugs with a crush washer, $18/set. Never had one come out while driving. NO NPT!!! There is such thing as a metric tapered plug, useful if your threads are a little fubar and you haven't got a helicoil or Time-sert kit.

There is a tapered 914 brake plug - brass- you will find it in the Pelican parts list. Fits perfect and stays there. Ask me how I know. Loosing one on the track is no fun. You think your day and engine is done.

They work fine, just don't put too much force on them. The threads in the head will be fine, too, when you're ready to put in a correct plug. If you're stuck, 1/8 NPT is an easy, temporary fix.
