930 transmission mounts/cushion replacements

I decided the 1987 tranny crossmember rubber cushions need replacing even though they are not made to be easily replaced. You may have noticed that our 930 crossmembers have the rubber mounts pressed in and not bolted on like others, so there aren't many options when it comes to replacing them. I found two viable options:

1- send the whole crossmember off to Wevo to be cut and re-welded with new semisolid cushions or order their kit and do the welding yourself.

2- order a special set or 901 type semi solid cushions from Rebel Racing and do the press work yourself.

I decide to go with option two and they worked great! While I was at it I also upgraded the motor mounts too.

I was not aware of this option. It looks much more convenient than sending to Wevo.
I will look into this, as well.

Very cool. After running Wevo blues in 911's for years I've been trying to figure out what to do about the 930 mounts. Great find!

Yes, that's why I posted it up cuz I know it's been an issue for folks for a while and this fix takes all of 30 minutes

Yes, crisp and clean and it actually feels like the power is laid down better. I guess cuz the mushy cushions absorbed/robbed some in translation between on and off throttle...

Also, the blues are 40% harder then stock, but not harsh at all and I'd recommend them highly!

how hard was it pressing these in yourself?

were you able to do it in bench vise or did you use a hydraulic press?

Thanks for the post.

Fred

Easy as pie if you have a 10 ton press, but watch for that flying 18 mm socket that you use to push with:-)

Did you have to do any cutting on the 930 crossmember or just rip out the old mounts and press in the new mounts? I thought the mounts were encased in the crossmember (have not been under there to look in a few months ...)?

No they will press out and new ones are 2 piece so they go in w/o press...
