Clutch adjustment
Last week I bought a low mileage (19,000 mi ) 87 Turbo that had a recent engine out service and at that time replaced clutch and cable.
When I drove it it shifted fine but clutch engaged about 2 inches off the floor. When I checked with a 1mm feeler gauge I couldn’t insert it. I then loosened it and did the whole procedure. At the bolt on the lever it was set at 1.2 mm. I then tightened the cable to 1 mm. Drove the car and it did make it engage closer maybe 1 1/2 off the floor. I should point out I put a screwdriver to hold the pedal up. The car shifts fine but I rechecked that feeler gauge clearance I again could not insert it. Is this normal? Even holding a flashlight there is no clearance. |

I just put a new cable in mine a month ago. It should fully return to a 1mm gap when the clutch petal is released. I found it helpful after I made the initial adjustment to have someone press and release the clutch petal a few times while I was under the car watching the cable action. You should get pretty close to an inch of travel at the end of the cable.

I have noticed on mine that the omega spring sometimes doesn't quite pull the last mm out of the travel. There's no tension on it at all, and if I just touch it the last mm of travel snaps out.
idk maybe you and I both need a new omega spring?

Those springs are pretty strong. They don't fall over in tha last mm of travel. I have had the same issue at times. Something in the adjustment - maybe pedal end - worn bush.

I had the exact same issue when I had the 930 in my car, I just left it a lone and kept driving the car. when I removed the trans for the G50 transplant the clutch looked almost new, so as far as your clutch felt good just leave it alone and enjoy your 930.

clutch take up is a function of the length of the cable adjustment at the clevis pin (pedal box) and the final adjustment at the clutch lever. You do need to maintain the 1mm clearance to make the bearing has no preload. My guess is the cable length was a bit different from prior cable when the new one was installed.
Not a tough of a job, but does require access to the pedal box and clevis pin (which is a pain) Center console removal is required along with center carpet. And then you need to get the under the car to adjust at the gearbox. Test and repeat until you get the feel you want.
