afr noob question
after gauge and sensor is installed. I see how its possible to set your afr at idle. But how are you recording it during running? Are you just keeping the car at certain rpms/boost and making a mental note of what the gauge reads? Or data logging somehow?
Or hitting a dyno? Told you it was a noob question thanks |
What brand AFR gauge did you install?
|
Data logging with rpm included on a laptop is best and a lot of guys do that.
I'm not into all that so I just look down at the gauge while driving or idling and thats good enough for me. But, that's really difficult to do at times like when near redline or way to dangerous to take your eyes off the road long enough to see what the gauge says if you're going fast and it's down in the center console like I have it so. . . |
Put in third, run it to redline and then take your foot of the gas and leave it in gear and let it slow down on its own. That should pretty much tell you everything you need to know. You should be able to save the run (PDF) and look at it later when it's safe.

I havent yet. I was just curious how people are recording/figuring out where the afrs are at different ranges.
For instance - say I install the innovate mtx-l .... and get the data logger as well.... Is it only recording the afrs?? Does a wire go to the tach as well to record rpms??? Or boost ? how does this all come together... Noob question !! |
Not sure what that system captures. If it does capture more than AFRs, then you would have to choose the data you want captured and then hit the road. It should tell you RPM, boost, AFRs (Lamba), advance.
|
If you can find anyone that will ride in the passenger seat and call out the AFR readings as the rpm's rise you can glance down at the tach that is very close to your line of site down the road and just remember it... if that works close enough for you.

ok..thanks for the replies. The third gear redline sounds the most fun.... I imagined my phone duck taped to the dash aimed at the tach, recording video while I had my brother yelling out the afrs, being recorded as well.... But I thought there would be a more civilized way....Back to my redneck south florida upbringing... :)
While on the subject... Innovate or Aem? Digital Or analog? Thoughts? |
lol... I like your approach. Heck, take him for a second and third gear run to redline, you'll be doing at least 130mph at that point and it'll be fun :)

I have an AEM and not sure if it has datalogging capabilities - but I'm a simple guy and just placed the gauge in a good place - and would use my judgement and look at it when I wanted to know what the AFR is/was. I'd take notes at home, too. Make an adjustment. Rinse and Repeat :-) It took a few months taking but the car runs so sweet now. One thing that will help a ton is to install some cone filters during this process - as the stock air cleaner gets in the way of removing the WUR - which you will do many times. Dumb me realized that once I installed a longer vacuum hose and if I just used one bolt to hold it in place I could have removed the WUR without removing the intercooler at about the same time I had the adjustments nailed down. Live and learn.
Beautiful car. Enjoy it. |

i use a data logger on my lm-1 with the aux box.
do several runs then drive home and download it all. the other good thing about that was i could send them to brian leask when i got my WUR and he could udually tell just from looking how much to adjust the settings on it. You can set it up for rpms, boost, and AFR. |
