Disconneted hose in engine bay

A quick intro....

I picked up my first Porsche (1987 930) last September. I bought it off a fellow enthusiast and PCA member with about 90K on the odometer. The car is relatively stock with the exception of one of Brian's awesome mufflers over at RarlyL8 and some 17" BBS. I really like the Fuchs look, but the BBS are growing on me and offer better tire selection I am told.

The car is Marine Blue and in overall pretty good shape minus the usual rash and chips of a 26 year old car. I don't mind as it make me less worried at DE events. Before I put any serious money into it, I want to learn how to drive it better and get to know all its handling nuances.

Down to business, I am curious about a rather large diameter hose to the left of the IC in the engine bay. It's the one that has a red cap on it and may be braided. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Looks to me like the hose that used to go from your smog pump to a filter. Looks like your smog pump and other smog devices were removed.

Yep, part of the air injection emissions system. Mine is plugged with something far less sophisticated....an old spark plug. Leave it be....don't worry about it.

Just took a longer look, that line is coming from underneath where the smog injectors join to one piece and then go to your now non existing smog pump. I guess it's ok like that, I removed the whole system cause I hate clutter and here in NY if your car is over 25 years old no emission tests are needed anymore.

The PO of my car removed all the smog air pump stuff, except the injectors and associated manifold/plumbing (probably because you have to remove the exhaust headers to remove the plumbing to the injectors). Someday maybe I'll finish the job but until then the plugged hose does the trick.
