Alternator Warning light Diode?

Hey everyone, I am looking to what others have done to replace the diode, or safeguard the warning light circuit, if the diode is removed?
I know others have ran into this issue, But not how they resolved the issue, I am concerned about deleting that diode, leaving the circuit unprotected.

There are lots of thread on this diode here and at the technical forum. I think it's needed for the alternator to start working correctly and so does the red bulp. I think I once had it the wrong way and alternator did not work. Hope someone more smart will chime in for the real answer : )

OK I went through this. You can just pull the diode out, and bypass it until you find a new one. I took me a year and a half. should be about a few dollars there were a couple people on here who offer to sell on at an outrageous price so I passed until someone had one for a reasonable price. If you don't replace it or hard wire past it the alternator will not charge the battery.

Thanks for the advice. I have a replacement on the way. I have a temp Diode that I soldiered together from Radio Shack and it works fine.
Now if my CD box would behave:(

I went through this a few months back with the gray ghost. Someone sent me the part numbers needed to reproduce the diode/wire using RadioShack new parts. That email is long burried now but the parts do exist to make an inexpensive wire that does the job. There are a few EE here on the forum that can tell you exactly what is needed.

Thanks to all for you input on this issue.

I have resolved the issue by making my own replacement diode(s).

I used the diode pn 1N4002 and soldier on the connectors and covering in shrink tube, It works great as soon as Installed upon start up the alt light went out and the alternator started charging the battery 13.4 to 13.9 volts at 2000-2500 rpm.

these diodes are used in other locations as suggested by the link to the rennlist thread on this subject (see post 7). easy to make cost less than a dollar for all components.

Mike
