Found cable unplugged under dash - no idea what its for
 

Anybody know what this is for? If I connect it, it starts a humming sound in the dash, quite loud, without ignition on. No change when ignition is turned on:

Key in the ignition buzzer You can see how it connects to the ignition switch. Leave it disconnected.

Not sure I understand, but for now leaving it as is..

Could that be part of an after market alarm? Very safe then, all you need to do is unplug it :)

Irritating buzzy sound. Go ahead and plug it in and keep it that way if you like.

What Stevie said was that the item in question is the hook-up for the warning buzzer that is supposed to "buzz" when the key is in the ignition and a door is open - it is supposed to be a reminder that the key is still in the ignition. This has nothing to do with an alarm.

It would be nice if it made just a soft humming sound...like your favorite tune. But nooooo, it's an obnoxious buzzing designed to prevent you from locking the car with your keys in the ignition...or getting your car stolen while sampling a few brews in your favorite bistro following a hot spirited ride.
