Turbo noob backfire question:
So do these cars typically have a considerable backfire? I mostly get this after hard on gas then off throttle.
I am guessing the super rich to off throttle causes this - correct? Actually thinking of getting out of the hobby after 25 years - rarely drive the car anymore - had a couple of 3.6's in it and most recently this 91 turbo w backdated CIS and Leask WUR etc... Thanks! Backfiring or popping on decel is normal especially if you don't have a decel valve or an aar. I don't and my car pops and gurgles nicely. a leaner running car has louder pops and or bangs and a richer running car has some more muffles pops. Louder if you have a straight pipe or no muffler.
Cool car, I bet it's hard to keep those tires from spinning? |
Cool - thanks
Fairly sure no Decel valve - do have aar though I have a muffler on the car but it was mostly a temporary set up - really want to run no muffler. But I must say the darn thing is fairly quiet- all considering. Rear rims are 16 X 9 so fairly fat but the car is most definitely a handful... |
What's faster, the 3.6 or 3.3 turbo?

Love that your exhaust exits on the right ,where I believe it originally exited and that your tailpipe is round ,not oval. Love your car! It's the little things.

Well I had an OBD1 3.6 then a Varioram 3.6 then on this same motor: 50 PMO's .... Hard to say what's faster - depends on what scenario we are taking about I suppose. I would say the 3.6's were faster when you are rat racing around but at speeds the turbo really shines. I actually really liked the 3.6 varioram for various reasons. The turbo is a very very cool car - very drivable and that ever addicting boost on tap. Tame as an SC then it drops the hairy pair as necessary... |
aww

Stupid CA DMV won't let me put back the original CA blue plates since I took the car to WA for a few years ... OMG they are impossible to deal with ... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/nono.gif |
