Comment/feeler on a 930 Tranny..NOW FS

Gents as most of you know I'm in the process of an EFI and engine rebuilt. I was lucky enough to score a Ruf 5 speed tranny in the process(yes the madness has no end..).

I will be putting up my 4 speed tranny with Lsd and Powerhaus 2 short gears for sale. Attached is spec on the tranny that I will be selling. She shifts excellent. I have not narrowed down a price( maybe $6-7K).

Note: Will be ready for pick up or shipping by 10/2/2013

Oh ring and pinion are 9:38

GLWS. Stock 1-2 but steeper 3-4 seems like it would be perfect for a car that doesn't live on the autobahn. Even when I track my car, 3rd seems tall and I might use fourth once a lap.
A possible 172MPH @ 6800RPM in 4th would still be more than enough for me, even on a track day.

So with that 4th gear, what is the RPM cruising at 75 MPH?

Real world, cruising for me at 75 mph( using my 17"wheels) iirc 3500 rpm. Mind you I've only used my car less then ten times since I've owned it in 2years. She pulled like a frieght train with a push of the pedal on 4th. There was never any need to downshift.
Tranny will be opened up and inspected prior to install or sale. Yes an additional cost for me but a peace of mind as well.

RUF 5 speed

That RUF 5 speed will be uber cool in your car

It will be a lot cheaper than converting to a G50 (5 Speed) with all the chassis work, and changing over to a hydraulic clucth.

I have the Pelican Turbo Calendar on my wall it's September LOL

Looking right off the gear chart in his post it looks like 3000rpm in 4th at 75mph.

Assuming this is charted with stock 16 inch rims and tires.

That is a pretty short 3rd gear and still a slightly tall 4th.
I would have probably dropped 4th down to 165mph or so if it were my tranny.

If you look at the chart, the rim diameter used was 18. Yes 4th is bit tall but shorter than stock. Makes for a great driver fo those who use their car on the road(highway) as well as the track.

Here are some pics of the tranny being disassembled, I decided to open her up to truly identify the gear ratios(number have been posted above). Upon inspection two syncros had a little wear. For peace of mind(for me and a potential buyer) I decided to ask Peter(Dawe's Motorsport) to replace the worn syncros(all else was in perfect condition). This tranny will be fresh and ready for install. It will be ready and available for shipping(for sale now)by next Wednesday...10/2/13

From a 1986 930.

Price: $6000.00 or best offer(does not include shipping)

These last four pics were given to me by Peter, since I don't have a scanner I took pics of the photos.

I wish I would have bought the RUF tranny for $6k...let me know if you find one at that price because I know of someone that may be interested. I don't understand the issue with my price.....my ad states to MAKE OFFERS IF INTERESTED...what is the worst I can say...no. Take into account the gears, lsd and the rebuilt of a fresh tranny and toss out a number...

I have sold plenty of parts through Pelican. Some just pick up the phone and call me or pm me with their offers. Wire or PayPal(plus the 3%...sorry I'm not eating the fee on this one) is acceptable. Local pick up..OK. Shipping is the buyers responsibility.

For comparison only (my apologies to the op of the thread) 930 4 spd transmission from 86 NoN-LSD

Keep in mind, mine is just as fresh(0 miles since rebuilt) except I have LSD and short gears. Look up the gear ratios my tranny has and the cost to purchase them..it's over $3.5k. One can buy mine and sell theirs and make out with an excellent deal.

The cost to re-gear your 4-speed box is irrelevent. It's like someone selling a big bore 3.0 ltr asking 10 grand because he's got that much invested in his big bore pistons/cylinders rebuild. For that money one would just go for the 3.6. Its kind of the same with the 4-speed. I just dont see any advantage with the old school 4-speed at that high of a price. I'm just going to get a short bell G50 and have a modern 5 speed gearbox. I can do that for 6-7 grand easy. Nothing personal, just my honest oppinon as someone who is in the market for a gearbox.
