I'd like to know how they got it to work. Maybe they programmed it as an 8 cylinder in TunerStidio or MegaTune?

Todd is a good guy, they mainly do 996-997 mods but I would doubt he can't sell you a chip and RRFPR. For low boost it's perfect and very easy, you retain all the motronic cold/hot start etc which I think is pretty good. I went this route and it is very simple. The other plug and play option would be these guys. Canems Engine Management Solutions

I already offered my Proto kit to him, the cheapest, easiest route.
Canems is crazy overpriced. |

Actually it is the opposite: 944 NA has 130 teeth and 951 has 132 (due to having bigger 240mm clutch vs 944 NA 225mm clutch).

VEMS can read easily 944, 951 and 3.2 trigger wheels, also Audi 20V Turbo's 3 triggers (135+1tooth flywheel and additional HALL cam sync) already from 2006.

Accel also makes a billet drop-in "Dual Sync" distributor #77911. It is fitted with hall-effect sensors for flywheel speed and camshaft synch.
Add a no-frills CDI & coil, and that's more than enough ignition for 550whp: Taking the EFI Plunge
