He lowered the whole floor pan to lower the CG of the car similar to 935 with upside tranny but goes further to have a mid engine layout?

How in the world did he bend all those roll bars without any special forming tools? Impressive build indeed considering a small garage!

Morning!

Hmmmm... some of them answers are pretty astute, and some are truisms albeit not the answer.

I think the cowl references might be illusions created from the perspective of the hollowed out dash and white vs. orange effect.

This pic should help?

Not center steering, body not removable (good ones!). Not sure where he's at w/ the steering I don't think it's in there much yet.

Yes, frameless CF doors.

I think he's running a windscreen, tabs seen in this pic above.

Yes, rather tube frame - getting closer.

What didn't I affirm? One of you got it above, tho I think via SWAG than Sherlock Holmesing (different than John Holmesing)...

dingding ^we has winnarz^ !!!

good eye guys

mid engine, 915 box flipped upside down

bulkhead, fan intake:

I think he had the rollcage fab'd, forget as I was awash in sensory overload whilst gawking at all the little details.

The rear trailing arms have been elongated 2.5" rearward, with the flares reshaped into the existing roofline / tail area. You can see it in the rocker here, it's a bit eerie as the rear 3/4 window and tail light placement remain. The massive steel-flare width has the added length bleed / melt into the OE shape / concept, almost not noticeable:

new engine bay:

the twin K24s are gonna hang on that upper lateral bar w/ the dogears, with their intakes feeding thru the rear quarter windows

The silver bar'd rear box frame section you see is supercool... it's a lifting jig. Remove rear bumper, insert jig, bolt into chassis, lift from center loop w/ a hook from a beam hoist above. Brilliant!

Very creative build... wheelbase now of a 914 and mid engine dynamics in a tt'd longhood 930 - almost kindasorta what the factory coldashoulda made?

the rear tail is removable, and doing so then morphs into a ducktail - really trick

That is sick true but HOW THE HELL could we have guessed that from the first pic?!
All I could see was a new scoop style intake I've never seen before.
But did you say 915 geaqrbox? I'm not sure that's going to hold up.....

I've often thought this was the logical path to improving the handling on the 911, but I've never seen it done. I say this as a former Formula Vee driver...they have the same configuration.

But on Vees we simply moved the ring gear to the other side of the pinion and kept the gearbox right side up. Can that be done on a 915? And is he going to put a sequential shifter in since he has to fabricate a linkage with an apex joint anyway?

Brando... in 1st pic you can see the length of the rocker area from the edge of the door to the beginning of the fender arch is... 2.5" longer.

SR... yes, he mentioned something about flipping the ring gear and having something uber $$$ custom made in order to accommodate the box flippage (flipping box always seems uber $$$?). Again, I was glazed over in sensory overload by that point. He's not going sequential, and has a Wevo shifter mounted in there.

Brando... when you flip the 915 the output side case is already fully web'd and doesn't need bolstering as in a normal application.

Some more pics:

front valance fully hand cut & formed - again, impressive work for DIY garage'er:

pretty sweet misc. Elephant Racing bits and Big Reds:

Keeping it single plug with moderate boost, and going EFI - Motec I think (again, glaze-factor).

Something like 2200lbs, and shooting for a conservative 450-500whp... should be redonkular...

Yes, this seemed to be his thought process as well. That, and he'd taken his 914-6 as far as it'd get him and he was looking for a 911-based challenge.

His 914 was tits, hand made flares (and wicked cool fully flared / rocker'd CooperS in front of that):

and a Carrera 3.2:

monstrous oil cooler (far right) venting through the floor:

I'd met them 1000yrs ago autocrossing, back then he was running a 914 mid-engine'd Mini Cooper he'd again hand-built. Used to spin (pendulum) like mad though 8-/.

Guy's a true NUT heh heh...

Shouldn't have read ahead before I guessed. I was going to say midengine.

Fabcar did a few of them. Loren Beggs owns one. There's also one at Musante. Musante's still looks like a 935. Loren's now looks like a Cayman.

Chris was kind enough to let me fingerbang the one he had there a coupla years back - insanely cool car... much different level of what's being done here, but this is DIY.

Paul,
His work is so good I could not tell that the rear fender/flares were relocated!

On another note...isn't he going to add helper springs on the front? Also, it's not a good idea to have a loose spring (when fully unloaded). I had the same problem which I resolved by using helper springs and cables to keep the springs under preload even when unloaded. I also installed needle thrust bearings between the springs and collar to keep the spring from binding when turning.

Wow, impressive project going on there. Looks like he spends his time in the garage, not surfing pelican.

Those 914 trailing arms on the rear?

MikeD! Good to hear from you friend!

You have entirely more clue about what you proposed than I am in annnny position to provide opinion to. I literally have no idea, I'm like the kid who learned everything he knew by watching TV - only substitute Pelican930board for TV. I'm not dat smaht 8-/.

Jim... I forget what he'd told me regarding the arms... I know they're elongated, either yes from 914 or 930. I'll ask my bud...

Glad you guys enjoy - it blew my (feeble) mind. I mopped the kitchen and bathrooms tonight, he created a tube framed reconfigured masterpiece.
