intriguing 930 race car build

Started the New Year off with a New Year's Day wintery blast in my 930 over to my bud's dad's house a few towns over. Great way to start a New Year I think.

Went to go check his progress on his race car build. Whilst not technically a 930 - I think he said he used the nose off a '72 on a '76 911 chassis, and is building a 930 3.3 motor to put in, running twin 996tt k24's - I thought yous all here might enjoy.

Before I delve further into the build... let's play a game: what do the Super Sleuths of youses here see in the below pic that makes this as the subject says... intriguing?

A secondarily intriguing part of his build (to me at least), is that he's literally pounding the thing out w/ his bare hands and simple tools in his own sameish-as-mine garage. I told him seeing it made me feel pretty crappy about mesself - here he is fabricating this by hand and I have trouble putting air in mah tahrs...

So, whatchyou see? Should be obvious to the astute of you. No, it's not that it's the color scheme of a Creamsicle 8-)...

The rear diverter to the intercooler on the rear wing. Pretty cool.

ah, that may be tertiary-illy intriguing... but the answer is waaaay cooler than that

I like parts of that, not so much other aspects of it - still tho, impressive. All hand snipped and formed etc.

Next?

Good catch on the mirror! He's quite proud of that - it's off a snowmobile!

Really purposeful look and a very suiting aesthetic... even cooler is how it's mounted... will be evident in forthcoming pics.

Once again tho, No Soup For You! 8-)

Waaaaay more significant here...

OK, I'll throw you a bone for your mention of the mirror and will show another pic which includes it (and the answer heh heh... and it's not that my 930 is in the background)...

They're mounted to the cage on nub'd swivels (for lack of better description) - allows for them to lock in extended / folded positions. He didn't want to mung up the carbon fiber doors by affixing to them.

Also note the D-ring'd hinges - waaay cool quick release. Doors are featherlight, and actually latch with authority.

But again, the answer's in that pic too 8-)

Heynow... rear shock mounts... getting closer! Things that make ya go hmmm?

I noticed the front cowl is raised or bowed up a little too and it isn't flush with the sheet metal around it. Is he going to run without a windsheild? I rode in a 911 with no windshield on the way home from a paint shop once... kinda windy.
The rocker panel area looks different too. More so behind the front wheel wells.
